100 series wont engage into 4wd

Post by gutlux44 »

hi all, i have a 98 model 4.2 diesel 100 series with a part time 4wd kit fitted. Problem is it wont engage into 4wd. hubs are locking correctly but when i push the diff lock button in the dash it wont engage and the 4x4 light does not come on in the dash either. I can hear it trying to lock in when i push the button but no go. it worked fine last time i used it. Any help would be great. cheers Brad

Check ya electrics. There are plugs that sit above ya transfer that might have come lose. There is a plug there I have disconnected so I can put in Low 2wd. Helps when reversing the trailer.

Is the motor turning continuously when you press the button, or just momentarily like it normally does?

From what you say it sounds like a linkage problem between the motor and the shift fork.

It goes for about 3 seconds then cuts out. It normally makes a "clunk" when it locks in, but its not doing that. I guess i will have to take the transfer case out and have a look.
