You guy's would be blown away if you really knew where most of our parts are made for our everyday well known cars that we all think is "AUSTRALIAN MADE" or even JAP or GERMAN made or what ever. Dont think all our you beaut VE commodore parts are made here, or look at the new BT50! they've not made in JAP land, and FORDS!! well we wont go there.
VE - US, South Korea, Indonesia
BT50 - Indonesia (well known, in fact as the BT50/New Courier has never come out of Japan or did the Bravo/Courier before it...)
Fords - US, Europe (Germany, Spain, UK), Indonesia, South Korea, South Africa
No mystery about any of these.

They arent chinese designed engines, they are (apparently) mitsubishis.
Do mitsubishis have trouble getting up the hill?
Very true indeed!!! But there's still a lot of people that think if they buy a Commodore then its all made here, if they buy a Ford then its all made here, and so on, as i hear of this all the time in my trade.DAMKIA wrote:VE - US, South Korea, Indonesia

Yeah I was going to say the same considering my old triton with a NA diesel and oversized tires could pull a box trailer full of furniture with a tray full of camping gear up the Toowoomba range. Yes I had to drop back to 3rd, maybe even 2nd towards the top, but it never looked like stopping. So I call BS.mike_nofx wrote:Find that hard to believe.BeNoS wrote:i have heard of at least 6 great wall utes that with a bit of a load on them WILLNOT make it up the towommba(wish i listened to spelling teacher at school) range. just pyhically will not drive up the hill. so if that is anything to go by il stick to my na diesel pootrol.

Meh...

thus why most only have a 5 year warranty.
my paj is 20 years old and still going bloody good, the styling may not be to everybodies liking but dang its a bloody good 4x4.
There's a massive difference between design life and warranty period. My rangie is older than your pajero.
It's good to know that you can get Rodeo and Hilux doors along with Navara lights from your local Great Wall dealer.
If they sold a pimped ghetto version like that here for under 30k, I shudder to think how many they would sell.alien wrote:

Its actually not bad looking!
I stopped for a squizz at one when i was in tassie and was amased by how tiny the shocks on it were, like tiny. the poor buggers would cop a flogging on our roads, let alone corrogations.
Might be ok If your kind to them, but when you compare a petrol great wall, brand new for say 25k, or a 5 year old patrol 4.2 IC TD for the same money. I know what will be worth more and drive better in another 5 years.

My uncle recently bought one of these great wall dual cabs. I thought he was crazy, but after spending a bit of time in the ute on a recent surf trip, I thought it was alright. It even has leather seats! He got it serviced while we were away and the mechanic was really impressed with it. The test will be how it will handle the day to day work duties of towing a trailer and how long the ute will stay in one piece... He's only planning on keeping it until the warranty runs out. Here's a pic...
2007 Jeep Wrangler JKU - CRD
I think the chinease are hard done by.
The worst cars on our roads are commodores and falcons and there made right here in OZ.
Ive always been a holden man but i will never buy a commodore again.
After 60+ years they still havent figured out how to paint one properly.
And i have no dought that the great wall would sh@t all over the D40 Navara.
I should know every time i go offroad with my mate i spend the majority of the day towing his or fixing it.
Cheers

See if you can get a hold of a box the Nissan lights are supplied in. My bet "Made in China" will be prominantly displayed. If so, then you can bet they would not go to extreme lengths to change a plastic mould when all they have to do is press metal in a certain way.NQCalais wrote:I'm sure I read somewhere that the Nissan lights wouldn't fit the Great Wall utes and vice versa. I thought it was because they were a slightly different shape in the back or some such thing???
Might all be just bullsh*t too......

They are made to a price point and for the money I think are very good. I would still have bought another falcon xr6 if it still suited my needs.
A mate of mine was a bit of a euro lover aussie hater for years, then he took an xr6 for a drive and cant shut up about them now
Not sure about the holden paint issue, but I can gaurantee that the worst vehicles Ive owned were not aussie made. korea/malaysia are sending out the worst crud - but its cheap so who are we to complain.
Having said that my fiancees hyundai getz is a brilliant car.
I think it comes down entirely to the individual models and brands not necissarily the country.

there's your problem right there... don't lump the falcon in with the commo... refinement/fit and finish is so much better on the falc it's not funny...Tommie wrote:I think the chinease are hard done by.

Almost 19, what difference does it make? Am I somehow less educated than everyone else here just because I'm younger?tna racing wrote:are you even 18 yet?craz3d wrote:touchéHUSSLN wrote:They have alot in common with your Hilux then is what your getting at?craz3d wrote: pieces of shit

My ENTER last year was 86.7, I'm studying Mechanical Engineering/Commerce double degree, haven't dropped a mark all semester, and have been pulling apart and rebuilding engines since I was 7 years old (started with lawn mower motors), and lego since I was around 2 years old and still to this day I love a challenge (recently made a semi-working lego model engine with functioning valves that ran off compressed air - being lego it didn't last long )
So I've effectively got nearly 12 years mechanical experience.
Age means nothing.
Here in Ukraine we see tons of Chinese-made cars, trucks and whatnot: Great Wall, Chery, Rexton and others.
FWIW, Great Wall and other Chinese brands are inexpensive, which is a plus in a cash-poor society infested with insane drivers. However, such cars also have the reputation of being somewhat disposable.

haha How old are you TNA? pretty sure you have posted some shit in here.
As for the rest of the thread who cars what Falcon and Commodes are like. Or even Patrols or cruisers. This thread was about the Great Wall Motors.
p.s talking to people who give XR6T's and SS's a flogging for work. The Commode is heaps better. But back to the great wall.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
