40 series 350 chev carby to efi throttlebody conversion
Guys n gals,
Im currently running a carby fed 350 chev in my 40 and im looking at converting it to efi for some better drivability offroad.
Im hoping to keep things fairly simple so Im looking at an efi throttle body which will just sit in place of the holley carby I currently have. Something similar to this:
http://www.efihardware.com/products/c96 ... tle-bodies
I currently have an HEI dizzy and a 600 Holley running off an electric pump at 6 psi.
But i've got a few questions i'm hoping someone can help me with...
*Im aware I'll have to buy a computer to run the system. Can I run fuel only, utilising my HEI dissy and, if so, are there any recommendations on which computer??
*What other parts do i need to purchase to get this running?? I know I need an EFI fuel Pump, High pressure lines and injectors but what else do I need to consider??
* What would be a reasonable budget for something like this?? I know I can pick up the throttle body for approx $700. Computer will be around $1000. Injectors will be around 100-150 each. I can fit it myself but will need it tuned. Is 3 grand enough??
Cheers in advance...
Woody

Here ya go

You can use the LS1 PCM, coilpacks and loom and the gear from those guys to generate the signal. No Dizzy required.
PCM is around $100, coilpacks off ebay are often $150ish and the kit from those guys for $500. Stock injectors $100 a set. Prob get away with it fully fitted and tuned for under $2k.
IM not connected to those guys buy i do know the LS1 stuff pretty well.

I would also recomend the LS1 kit from efi connection. They are great guys to deal with and fast service. i use them a fair bit for connectors.
You would want to budget $900 for a new standalone engine harness to suit the ls1 pcm. also allow for a tune as it won't run real well with the factory ls1 tune. Should pick up a factory ls1 manifold pretty cheap. Will be a much more efficient setup then a throttle body injection, and you get rid of the dizzy.
Would be able to get it done for $3000 i would think.

LS1 manifolds dont come close to fitting a LT1. Better off drilling the stock manifold for the injectors and fab some rails unless you can find a kit to suit. Need to get the injectors as close to the ports as you can and angled towards the valve for best flow. There are some weld in injector bungs around too.crankycruiser wrote:I have a std ls1 manifold with injectors and fuel rails sitting here if u are interested, no throttle body tho.
check out yank ebay
stuff like this
lt1 manifold, throttle, injectors etc us$250
just bolt it on and use the ls1 computer

I had this set up on a 5lt VL once. Engine had cam, heads and extractors. Went well and had no issues at all. Its a simple bolt on and go set up. You dont need a computer to tune it. Although for best results a dyno would be advised.
I have heard both good and bad reports on this set up. But in my experiance it ran perfect.
One of our guys runs this setup on a warm 308,
The computer is built into the throttle body and connects to a laptop via a USB style lead.
Comes with basic parameters to choose for your type of engine and can be fine tuned by laptop from there.
Alternatively the supplier can connect to your motor via you laptop over the net and assist by remote tuning.
Not sure what it cost but I think about $3k.
Cheers

A speed camera would have prevented that!

G'day,
I've got the powerjection 3 in the pics.
Supposedly there is a new model out ow Powerjection 3 Pluc which also has spark control as part of the system.
Mine cost me about $3000 from the austalian distributor (Australian Auto Accessories, in nunawading 9845 0800)
The manufacturer tells me it 100% waterproof and can be run under water (computer is mounted to the throttlebody and is totally sealed)
You can get it cheaper direct through the USA but i figured i'd pay the extra and if i had any dramas i had local support.
Mad a huge difference to drivability of the car.
Kit came with everything and was a one weekend install and go through the pre flight checks, turn the key and it fired straight up.
Ran super rich till it self tuned and now drives well, just hoping to do a few tweaks to the map to get it running a bit more efficient but overall I'm very happy with it.
It's self tune has been better than the $3000 i've spent of dyno tunes trying to get the carby setup to run right. Should have gone this way from the start and i'd have a lot more cash in my wallet!!
