Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set
ok the springs are dobinsons and the shocks are EFS elites dont know if that makes any difference the front fit fine just the back are to short
front part no: 36-5592 back part no: 36-5549

yep thats what i'm thinking but i'll go Tough Dog 45mm Adjustables as i can get them cheaper then anything elseBadMav wrote:Take them back mate, I'd even suggest upgrading and getting the 6 inch shocks too.

if you look in there book the Elites are up to 4" but the shocks i got do the 3" and 4" well thats what it says in the bookchunks wrote:The EFS Elites only go up to 3" lift, the EFS Extremes are for 4" and above so sounds like you have been supplied with the wrong shocks. You should be able to get a set of Dobinsons shocks to suit for a lot cheaper then some TD's.

I have found that too many companies make shocks and list them as 3-4", 5-6" etc when they in fact don't suit these lifts at all.
I ran 3" dobinson coils, and the TJM shocks I was recommended had 25mm travel left, and ran OME L series which were supposedly for a 4" lift.
At the end of the day, IMO, you are better off putting the vehicle on a hoist without shocks to figure out what length you can run, bearing in mind that you may need to extend the bumpstops

Thats what I did and Elites wouldn't have been long enough....it was either Pro Comps or EFS Extremes for 4" lift. I went with Pro Comps.KIWI wrote: At the end of the day, IMO, you are better off putting the vehicle on a hoist without shocks to figure out what length you can run, bearing in mind that you may need to extend the bumpstops
1991 GQ TD42 Safari, 5spd, 4" Lift, 35" shovels, Locked & Loaded.
Thats probably the best way to tackle it. Nat, it probably wouldn't hurt to check your front shocks while you're at it.KIWI wrote:At the end of the day, IMO, you are better off putting the vehicle on a hoist without shocks to figure out what length you can run, bearing in mind that you may need to extend the bumpstops
Measure the distances between the bumpstops too, factoring in bumpstop compression, to calculate the compressed shock length you have to work with.coxy321 wrote:Thats probably the best way to tackle it. Shock # 36-5592:EFS Elite. Max length:550mm. Min length:325mm. 75mm-100mm lift
Shock # 36-5549: 700mm. Min length:425mm, 75mm-100mm lift
These are from a NZ website showing rec. lift so whoever sold you these was correct, the problem being, as I said earlier, manufacturers try to cover a range of lifts with each shock so they can keep their own product range smaller, and you have found out first hand the problem this creates.
IMO, you are better off buying the coils you want, then measuring for the correct length to avoid these problems, or buying from Suspension Stuff, who has a good knowledge on which shocks suit which coils when you buy from him (a 4" coil in one brand can be very different to a 4" in another brand)
