What latch on spare wheel carrier?
I am nearly finished building my rear bar and spare wheel carrier, I was wondering what does everyone use to keep them latched on and also has anyone got an idea on how to latch the wheel back while the door is open so it won't hit me or the door if it is a little windy etc.

Re: What latch on spare wheel carrier?
I like Destaco Latches, I think you can get them here (cant confirm because work blocked the site) . As for holding it open, the ones on opposite lock bars use heavy duty gas struts, which seem to work pretty effectively.Kramer wrote:I am nearly finished building my rear bar and spare wheel carrier, I was wondering what does everyone use to keep them latched on and also has anyone got an idea on how to latch the wheel back while the door is open so it won't hit me or the door if it is a little windy etc.

Thanks everyone, I looked at using those latches similar to cars eg bearclaw, I actually came across Steve's thread on ausjeepers while googling. I just don't have the room in the bar (didn't design it with a latch in mind) to run a bearclaw.
The over centre latches are good but finding one any locally so I could compare or even look at how to mount it is impossible in this town
I just received from Hans Welding Works in Bundy (no affiliation) a latch that will do the job and will be easier to use than an over centre latch. It is pull open and you can just push it shut, it also comes with a striker plate. The pin has a diameter of 20mm. They had smaller ones but I am off to the Cape in a month and don't want my spare wheel opening on the corrugations.
