Check the earth lead going to the engine. Nissan is pretty well known for having a poor earth lead.

I'm thinking it could be the earth.
The starting batteries brand new.
I have put another starter in itthat a mate gave me from when he had his patrol.
I have never been heaps fond of the earthing, I'll buy two brand new terminals and new cable. I'll measure it up and whip down the local parts store.
Thanks heaps fellas

So when you try to turn it over do you get a ticking noise? Put a multi meter on the battery and check the charge and then get someone to turn the key when you do it as well. The other thing you can do is to earth out the starter motor. Get a screw driver and earth out the positive of the solenoid to the engine block or starter motor. It doesn't mater. See if that works. If it does then its the solenoid. If not then either your solenoid is completely stuffed or there are power problems. Make sure you check the positive connections to your starter as well. Oh Make sure the car is out of gear and the ignition is on. Also make sure the hand brake is on and it may even pay to chock the wheels just to be sure.

When I turn the key can hear the glow system start, then after so long it clicks again.
Then when you turnthe key to stat there's just nothing. Doesn't make a noise or anything.
I'll get this other starter that works good garrentued.
And go from there ( should be able to get my money back if that's notthe problem)
I've got 3 others that I'll get rebuilt some time soon as well.
I'll report back when I get the next idea.

few simple checks, see if all your reds drop out when u go to start,if so u have a shagged battery or dodgy terminal, do not short the starter to ground like one post says also tap the starter and see if it goes good quick check and if it does its gonna be the starter get it rebuilt or new, not cheap either way, ensure there is power on the start wire on the soleniod too, the small wire on the starter, see how you go
