TD42 Head gasket ?
G'day all, Ihave drops of mpisture coming out the exhaust or my gq TD 42 . Have been just shifting it in & out of the shed while prepping it for paint , so running stone cold. Thought this produced moisture only in petrol motors. A while back ( and not much distance back ) I sapotted some very small bubbles ( pin head size ) at the join of head to block. Dropped in some rad sealer & could not see bubbles any more. Now the moisture. Guess I have a Head Gasket job on my hands. Have I got this right ? and if so does one play it safe & go genuine VRS set or are after market kits OK. It has not long had a Turbo Glide Turbo set up fitted ( recommend that crowd ) running 10 psi but problem eveident before that.

moisture in the exhaust is part of the combustion process as there is always moisture in the air, fuel and oil. Doing short runs doesnt get the enough heat in the drive off the moisture and it accumulates in mufflers etc. On a long run it warms up enough to turn the water to steam and blow it out the pipe.
I would only run a genuine gasket and go the thickest one available as you have a turbo. You can check your grade of gasket as there is a tab on the gasket just above the alternator.
The head gasket is separate to the VRS set.
I did my gasket not long back and the head gasket was around $80 and the VRS was around $200. But the water thermo housing orings and gaskets were not in this set.

Thanks Clanky, this sounds right as there has been more than enough moisture in the air lately. I will watch the water level & check that I get no more bubbles at the mating surface. I may not have an issue. Thanks also re advice on gasket & VRS. & gasket thickness. Appreciated. I'll get on with the paint job. Regards Ian
