I Just recently picked up a SWB MQ (L28 and 4 speed) and just wanting some opinions on what is a realistic tyre size to run on it. I couldn't really care less about on road performance as it's only a weekend toy. I am thinking something of either 33" or 35", just want to know how the stock engine will go power wise turning them over off road.
Clearance issues aren't to much of a concern as they are easily enough sorted, and i have a spare chassis with complete drive train, which i am considering setting my spare axles and such as SPOA in the future aswell.

MQ Tyre Sizes
God of Magnificant Ideas!
The tyre placard on MQ Patrols says ...
750X16, which is 33".
With the 35" tyres you may need a body lift in order to gain some clearance, alternativly look into a SOA ( SpringOverAxle), this will give you heaps of clearance, almost enough to run 38" swampers ( with a few guard cuts aswell)
With larger tyres the power plant may also need to be looked at in the future. Turing 35"s should be ok but anything larger will need more power.

Thanks guys, was hard to convince me i should be looking at 35's
I will no doubt look into a Spring over, mainly because included in the purchase of this MQ was a spare one, which i have only taken chassis of with all the drive train. So i can easily set the axles and such up on this spare chassis as SOA then unbolt and slap under my MQ when the time comes.

I can fit and run 38's with little dramas. I get a little bit of scrub in the front of the rear guards but thats it.
Im running 35's on the standard drivetrain around now ( though i am running the diesel motor ) but from the evidence of the 2 L28's ive got to play around with id say they have more than enough power to do the job
