jimny mods

Hey guys,
im looking at doing jimny as my next project. my last project was a locked lux on 35's......
im in to rocks, sand and NOT mud

i'am just wondering what mods are avalible??
lockers/lift/tyres & rims, arms, brake lines, snorkels..... ect.??

I would be looking at a 1998 to 2008 model Jimny

Any reason? They're nat a bad light duty car but they are much weaker and harder to upgrade than a sierra.

The wheelbase is sweet, as is the lack of a fuel tank behind the rear axle, and the available automatic and power steering are a boon.

They have quite small guards and they're a challenge to chop to allow lare tyres without excessive lift. The suspension design, whilst much better than the diabolical coil sierra, is still poor and prone to breakage.

I don't have anything against Jimnies used for their application, but they're of much of a project car in my book.

I would agree with gwagensteve... I had a jimny previous to my GV and it was a great 4wd... Mine only had a 2" lift and was very capable but it was limited to tyre size, when i looked at the mods needed to fit bigger tyres and strenghting the front control arms (as i bent a few) i made the decision to move to the next project.

If i was looking for a good project to do some crawling i would look at a serria and doing a coil or SPOA conversion. There is a lot more after market parts available for serria's eg lockers, low gears ect.

depends what you want to do. if you buy an early model you can upgrade to 1.6 quite easy, the later models with the M series engines are quite good and a few engine choices are available. the early autos had heaps of bugs, but still better than the manual. there are heaps of stuff for them and fitting larger tyres can be an issue, but of more concern is hassles in converting it to run decent gearing. i hated my jimny, g13bb engine was rubbish and prone to just falling appart, gearbox was notchy, and rear diff weak (material probs not size). but one thing i did love was the suspension. even with a small aftermarket lift it was a great thing offroad. i'll give that front diff some respect, i caned it with 31's and 32 swampers and could not break anything, the rest of the car fell apart first!

when looking at one, if you notice a slight 'bow' in the front arms that is normal. i used to have many people come to my old workshop saying that the arms might be bent but they were the same profile as the new ones supplied by suzuki. if its a project you are after they are a good start, just throw out most of the running for late model or vit stuff.

Does any one make Crome-moly axels/CV's for a jimny?
And are there things like 3rd or snake front and rear arms??
