engineering 33" and suspension on GQ

Post by familybus »

ok tryed to get the dual cab engineered today and no luck all busy till next week!
what im asking is
1) ive got 33" x 15s and will need a speedo correction cert to pass them, $460 speedo correction $44 for cert for speedo correction!
2) 3" inch shocks and spring only lift with swaybars still connected and nothing else changed!

ok $660 for the chop mod to be certified or
$1,100 + $460 + $44 for wheel suspension and dual cab certified!

all or just cab chop?

ive got the 16 tooth cog on the speedo and have been told i can change that to a bigger one to correct the speedo but no one can tell me what tooth size will cure the speedo for 33"
Im not a gyno but ill take a look at it for you!

Have you tested your speed with 33's? When I put 33 on mine the speedo became perfect (GPS accurate)!

Just a thought...

Mine is the same. With 33's my speedo is 1 km out at 100km/hr.

Maybe save some money and check it with your gps

I think it depends on the year modle of your GQ, mine is a 1988 and I calculated that if I ran 33" tyres my speedo would run true at 100km per hour +/- 1 km per hour. I have just fitted 33" tyres and my GPS says speedo is correct now. It was out by 10km/hr with 32" tyres at 100km/hr.

If you get it engineered for 33" tires then would it be worth going the extra little bit for 35's? Then at least you have that option later on. It may be a big step up between the 2 sizes though as far as engineering goes.

As another note on the speedo thing, if you are out you can always 'adjust' it by hand if its close. My last car (not a 4wd) was 6% out, so I took the plastic off the front of the speedo got to 100km/h (gps confirmed) and gave the needle a gentle twist so it said the correct speed. At 50km/h I was actually doing 47km/h with the difference getting less as I got towards 100km/h. No one said shit about it when I got a defect cleared.

Same here for me. Going from 31" to 33" only drops the revs by about 150rpm in 5th at 100 km/h. On 31's my speedo was about 5km/h optimistic, on 33's, spot on.
