Hydro Assist on GU patrol

Post by smash250 »

Hi guys and Girls. I have a question for all those with Hydro steer or hydro assist steering.

I am about to put Hydro assist Steer onto my GQ comp ute which is running a GU diff and power steer box. Now my question is, where do you mount the hydrolic ram????

I have had a bit of a look and i have come up with two possible locations.
1- remove the steering dampener between the pan hard rod and drag link and install the hydro ram there.

2- Beef up driver side shock mount and make bracket which comes off the side of diff housing and install ram behind the diff housing parallel witht eh tie rod.

Problems i see.........

option 1- if i put the ram where the dampener is i will be putting 100% force onto the front arm on the swivel hub. i.e power steering box will be pushing and the ram will be pushing.

option 2- If i put the ram behind the diff there is next to no room, and also the ram is quite close to the ground and is quite likely to be damaged.

Pro's-...........

Option 1. Very easy to install, up high out the way very low chance of receiving any damage.

option 2- the for on the swivel hub will be spread over both the front and rear arms. the front arm will receive "push force" from power steer box, while the rear arm would be "pulled" by the ram and vice verser.

cheers
