I love my Hilux, but .....
I love my Hilux, but ..... It has issues.... but it's good offroad and has lockers and all..... but it still got issues. I dam well think of just getting rid of it and getting a 105 cruiser which will be comfy but I will destroy if I play too hard.
Mmmmm what to do ... what to do.... ??
Get rid of the Lux and get a comfy Cruiser....... Or.. Do some work to the Lux. And it does need alota work. Like new tint on the windows, new Canopy, change the g52 box that I break often for a stronger R150-151, fit a trans brake, fit new rims and tyres, repair the leaky long range tank, fix aircon, stop oil comming out the rear main and swivle hub seals, ... it could also do with a full suspension revamp, and a x-over steer set up. I may then just be happy with my Lux again...
Or should I just sink the time effort and $'s into a Cruiser ?
The Lux has all the fruit so to speak, big tank, big tyres, draws in the rear, dual battery, winch, all bar work, rebuilt turbo diesel and injector pump ect, ect, ect. But is it worth it when I can have a comfy Cruiser with some muddies and spring lift for a little more coin and a shit load less effort ?

Bah! Cruiser Schmooser.. 105 cruisers are for old men and pent-up soccermums.
Though the lux will never be as comfy as a cruiser.
So, comfort or bashability?
Or get a cruiser for long trips and touring, sell the unneeded crap of the lux and trailer it for the weekends. Then go all out, balls out, on the lux. This is what I would like to do when I grow up.

I rekon go the cruiser !
Even after the lux is fully kitted up, after all that time and money you've still got a slow fourby riding on leaf springs.
Sometimes its hard to make the break as you can get pretty attached to trucks you've put a lot of time and effort into,
but you'll like the cruiser, and so what if it gets a bit dinged up

Oh, I'm sure it's plenty bashable, I'd just be too cautious of panel damage. Hell, I'm protective enough of my shitty old lux..bad_religion_au wrote:how is a 105 not bashable? heaps stronger than the lux it's replacing.yamaha__308 wrote: So, comfort or bashability?

Maybe better worded as 'carefree bashability'..
I would be happy to take to the Lux with a FBH right now..... but a Cruiser would allways be to preedy.yamaha__308 wrote:Oh, I'm sure it's plenty bashable, I'd just be too cautious of panel damage. id go trailer the lux, and get a cruiser for tow rig and beach/easy trips.
i tow my lux only cause stupid transport department, then bought an 80 series to tow with and daily and do all the club trips/ aka wine and cheese tours cause nearly all the members in my club are over 50 and caravaning(not being disrespectfull) so really i can be as old as i want, and im only 20.
who says ya cant have the best of both worlds, miss havin the lux on the orad but omfg the cruiser is sooooo much comfier.

84 SINGLE CAB LUX , LOCKED, GEARED , CAGED, LONGED, 3RZ, 4 LINKED
92 1HDT 80, TWIN LOCKED, AS DAILY AND TOW BUS.

im in the same boat at the moment, got a lux, but finding it a bit cramped inside at times, but its amazingly capable and with a 3.0TD Factory turbo motor, goes faster than a 1HZ could ever dream of...
Was looking at a 100 series TD, but they are a bloody expensive proposition, and with the $30-40K change over cost, i could coil the lux and revamp the interior big time.
Im leaning towards keeping the lux, cos its 18yrs old, with real steel in the panels, and by the time i buy a low km 100 series, then go visit ARB to put the stuff thats currently on the lux onto it (lockers, barwork, LR tank etc) i'll be out of pocket nearly $50K.

2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
105's are around the 20k mark. that would go along way to making a hilux more road friendly.
But still why a 105 when you could get an 80 at the third of the price. Won't make any difference if you're going to offroad it hard.
Sounds like you'd make plenty parting out the lux accessories anyway, which would help fitting out a new cruiser.

You're obviously a hilux driver. The sooner you clowns understand that the hilux is a heap of shit off road the better.oldmate wrote:That's like coming into a relationship breakup thread saying you should try it with another man.T_Diesel wrote:What about a GQ? They are cheap and unbreakable.
Does the Hilux still come standard with a set of flanny shirts? One for each day of the week?
Explore your possibilities and go beyond the Toyota badge. You will realise that there are a whole heap of options available.
Just think of it as a new girl friend that wants to try anal.

i did the same,Dooma_ wrote:I sold my lux for the same resons a few years ago & bought a more comfier ride. Have regreted that decsion ever since, as my wagon was to big and pretty compared to a Lux. My 2 cents worth is spend the time and money on the Lux there a good all round truck.
sold a good lux and brought a big, heavy 80 series
Do the repairs/mods and it will out last you! The truck is already most of the way there.
drink a cup of concrete while you are at it, hilux leaves can be a smooth and soft ride whilst still having coil like flex. You just need to set up correctly. It's the best thing I ever did to mine, I'll never sell it. I just wish I could get the 60 series to ride as well, but she's just too heavy. but i will keep on trying to find a solution if it fuggin kills me!!!!

95' Hilux with 50 cal
Re:
no need to take it too seriously mate, just a joke. But I can play too. I certainly see more bogans in gq patrols than land cruiseres, or even gu patrols. And Around these parts, well I think the graveyard of stolen gq's medowie way says alot.T_Diesel wrote:You're obviously a hilux driver. Re: I love my Hilux, but .....
G'day mate I'd keep the Lux. I've got a 96 dual cab and I doubt I'll get rid of it since there so much
cheaper to run and don't cost a lot to maintain if looked after. There a lot lighter to as you'd know.
In saying that if and when it becomes a dedicated comp truck I'll probably get a 60 or an 80 to tow it.
Cheers bud,
Jacob

Re: I love my Hilux, but .....
I run a 85 4Runner for play time, but bought a super comfy 80series to tour, the 80 is petrol/LPG so it's reasonably cheap to run.
Best of both worlds.
Best of both worlds.
Re: I love my Hilux, but .....
That could work, but if i bought the 100 series TD i was looking at, and kept the lux, i would be up for about $1600 a year in Rego, and $2K a year in insurance!
