3F-E 80 to V8 conversion?

Ok its blown up, what motor options do i have that would be resonably priced. Help from anyone who has already done this would be appreciated

The 92 petrol 80s came from the factory fitted with big block chevs (which is what yours is), however most people retro fitted the 1fz-fe engine with minimal fuss.

my 93 has the 4.5l 1fz-fe read your compliance plate mine also has a sticker on the front of the head stating the engine. According to my workshop manual the 1fz-fe was the only injected model the 80 cruisers had but as this is a download i am not 100% sure on this.

Some may have had the engine from a 60 to get rid of old stock

The early 80 series came with 3f injected so could be that state the start of the engine number and will be able to figure it out
also may be a sticker on side of your car saying 24valve 4500 or something that means 4.5litre injected 1fz-fe

The bottom end of the 3F and 3F-E will be the same. That's the 3F part. The E designates it was electronically injected. The only differences (If any) would be cylinder head port configuration. Check if the are the same shap and diameter ports.
Possibly a difference in cam profile but most engines that use EFI or carb on the same engine will have an un-noticable difference in cam performance.

Indeed even a 2F should bolt in... but you wouldn't.

You have a 3FE, which is a late injected version of the 3F found in the FJ62. In the 80 series application it is a POS. Not an easy conversion to the later and far superiour 1FZE. Easiest is just to get another 3FE and put it in. The 3FE head is very different to the carby head. Bottom ends are very similar with only minor differences which should present so much hassle if putting a 3F carby bottom end under your injected head.

2" body lift and a 2F block will see your 3FE go from 4Ltr to 4.2Ltr or what is kown as a 2FE. Yes the 3FE head will bolt directly to a late flat head piston 2F block.

The 2FE can be worked to make close to 400hp :D

The 62 series got the 3FE in the US in 87 to comply with emissions, the Carby 3F is far better, as it has less emission crap to slow it down. The early 80 series got the 3F in Manual and 3FE in Auto due to the 1FZ not been ready in time.

If your going to stick with the 3FE the best thing you can do is remove all the smog and EGR crap. Without that they are a much better engine.

In a 80 series what manual box is behind the 3F ? Is it a constant 4wd H150 ?

Noise was terminal will need a new motor, cracked block.
Anyone have a 3F or 3F-E for sale? Think i'll get away with short motor head might be ok

So 3F-E s dont seem to grow on trees! A V8 conversion seems to be the way to go, anyone have any info on this subject. Think a chev with turbo 700 is the go. Any info would be appreciated

You can put an ls1 in there. It'll be pretty much the exact same swap as what I did as the 3fe has the h150 gearbox like the 1hz. Unbelievable power compared to what your used to and better economy. Not to hard and it'll cost you well under $10g if you do it all yourself.

I have a complete marks adapters kit to bolt a 350 chev to your A440F auto transmission that is currently in your 3FE 80 series. The kit includes everything that is needed including engine mounts. Also have the marks adapters accessory kit to bolt your Toyota aircon/power steering and alternator to the chev. Includes modified aircon lines. Also if you are interested I have a complete 350 chev in peices that was bolted to the kit in a 3FE 80 series. All up including the engine it would be worth around $4000 but would be happy with half that.

The 350 chev can't be engineered unless run solely on gas in the 80.

That's right, straight gas it has to be. I have a twin gas research kit that I want to get rid of as well.

The 3FE has an A440F gearbox unlike the 1HZ.

You could still probably buy a wrecked commodore grab the LS1 and gearbox get the adapter to the transfer case. Grab out the commodore fuel pump put it in your tank do the wiring get the computer unlocked and get it engineered and it'd still be under $10g.

Gday, I converted a 1990 Fj80 with the 3fe to a holden 5 litre with a turbo700 trans. It is fully complied and runs on both petrol and gas. It is a huge job and You will need to be able to weld and have a well setup shed to do it. Its not easy,and it can be very trying at times. But at the end of it I have an awesome 4wd that goes and sounds great plus uses a fraction of the fuel that the old boat anchor 3fe used. so if you are serious about doing the conversion im sure i could give you some advice :)
