Hi mate,

I have done this to both my gq's.

Ill look for pics of it fitted...

Basically i built 2 frames - one that remains in the rear and firt with the back seats in. i have roller boxes under this one.
The front section bolts to this one when the seats are removed. fits a full size double bed.

In my first one, i built it high enough, and mounter the engel under the front section on a slide behind the drivers seat. oped rear door - fridge slides out.
this worked well - but reduced head height on bed.

that car was stolen. the next one i built i built lower, fridge wouldnt fit under this one, but i had decided i would want a bigger fridge next time anyway...

Cheers

There was a good thread on this a year or so ago. Good idea, as long as you don't try and sit up to quick. I've had this setup before, and there just wasn't enough room to sleep comfortably due to the lack of height in the roof. A Safari top might be better though.

my current one is heaps better for head height.

Sit just above the wheel arches - plenty of room to test the workbench... .... the other one was tested, and used, but less comfy than the new one.

i use a futon matress in the back of my gq...fold back seats (technically middle row seats...dont have the very back seats in the car anymore), fill the gap between the back of the seats and the floor, put futon matress in, camp in style ;)
here's a pic...it's on my facebook so i don't know if i can actually link it in here but i will give it a shot.

edit: well i can see the pic :)
also, forgot to mention, because of the seats being folded down the bed has a slight uphill angle to it, and it does lean inwards a litte bit because of the wheel arches.
im only assuming the futon matress is a double bed size...and it fills the entire space from back doors to front seats...and the rear doors do press on it slightly.

I made mine at floor height.

Enough room for two and you could sit up and get your shoes on for midnight leak without hitting your head on roof.

Sold the GQ and then made one the same for GU.
can i use a mate to position while i screw?
Mines pretty much the same, but using a self inflating airmatress, so comfy. love everyone looking in envy when we rock up to the drive-ins while sitting in their little hatchbacks.
