Strange clutch issues (PICS)

Below are some photos of my clutch that i pulled out of my '86 Landcruiser BJ74.
The clutch has always been funny (activated at about 1 inch from the floor). I have replaced the master cylinder and the slave cylinder to no avail.
So i pulled the gearbox (off for a rebuild) and found this:





Notice the wear on the fingers of the clutch plate >>>>


And the wear mark on the clutch disk >>>>>


And the broken spring(s) here >>>>


What does this tell you? incorrect installation?
It appears the thrust bearing has been sitting on the clutch plate wearing it out, and then possibly pushing in to far? pushing the fingers onto the clutch disk?
Would this explain the way my clutch pedal felt?

Also, while pulling the gearbox, i found various random bolts in places and some missing from the bellhousing etc. Looks like there has been recent work done...
Does it look like it has the correct clutch release fork?

Is the thrust bearing seized? Possibly the wrong clutch plate, hence the pressure plate fingers touching down onto the clutch plate.

Was the actual clutch working ok, aside from the weird action?

Yep, the clutch was working and didn't appear to be slipping or anything...

The thrust bearing is fine

Apart from the damage, it all looks in pretty good nick, still plenty of meat on the disc etc.

I have a new clutch kit, the plate looks the same as the new one.

is this with the factory gearbox or has it been changed out


ive had this issue but i overcame mine by backing off the slave cylinder rod

Pressure plate looks pretty normal to me for one with a few k's on it.

I would suspect either a bent (or flexing) thow out fork or the slave cylinder rod need sizing to the app.

pressure plate fingers is normal wear..

wear mark on disc is due to slave over throwing the thrust bearing
( cause incorrect adjustment of master rod to pedal and also slave rod )

the broken spring this is just a case of happens

Someone may have put the clutch plate in back to front. Could explain the broken springs too.

Gday all,

The Thrust bearing was fine, replaced it though.

I have just finished re-installing the gearbox and new clutch, it all went together pretty well.

I have an issue though, when i put the slave cylinder on, it automatically pushes hard on the fork, therefore pushing the thrust bearing hard up against the clutch plate fingers already.

I have checked to see if it is the right one, and it does appear to be (according to the online EPC) (SEE PICS BELOW)

I looks like it's all stock, but i dont like the way it pushes up and there appears to be no adjustment on the rod or anything.

Opinions? Ideas? Is this the same for others?

Sometimes the slave comes with 2 rods of different lengths.
I have trimmed them down in the past too.

Just make sure its all good first!

the only adjust ment you have is on the push rod ..pedal to master

did you install your new booster? there is adjustment between the booster and master cylinder.

it is hydraulicly adjusted and that is standard the way you describe it, as long as you can push in the slave cylinder rod when in place a little

This is correct, how ever you should have some free play between the slave cylinder and the clutch fork. What I mean by this is that the slave cyl should not be bottomed out in its at rest state.

It isn't bottomed out...

Ill finish putting it all together and bleed it all out and see how it is.\
