laminating diffs!!!

HI GOING TO BE LAMINATING MY DIFFS ON MY 97 disco and wondered if any one had any pics are info on how to do this? I've had a search on here and can't find much info on this so any help would be great. I've got all the machine to do this as i run a fab /welding company so folding pressing welding isn't a problem.

Ye i don't mind doing any more just need some extra info i.e welding pattern stitch fully weld what size plate ect ect.

Sorry don't have any pics. With rovers it is common to laminate the diff housings using sleeves inside the axle tubes - otherwise it is difficult to strengthen the housing in the vital region from the bump stop to the outer flanges (where rear stub axle or front swivels mount). Inboard of this area, the lamination can be external as normal if you feel it is needed.

My front one was done by Maxi Drives many years ago. I will try to get some pics - dif currently out of the truck so should be easy.

Are there any issues post welding like having to straightening or normalising once the diff housing is laminated? I imagine most of the external bracing is biased to one side.

Short answer yes, long answer - shouldn't be any big issues if the guy doing the welding knows how to approach it. Potentially, with the welder in the wrong hands you could turn the diff into a banana though.

welding a maxidrive actuator block onto the housing can make it move....so id say definitly check it for true after welded.....even with a good welding procedure and prestressing it may still move.....laminating is going to put alot of weld into that puppy...therefore alot of heat.
