So after much searching i am still to find a definitive answer to how much work is in changing from 24v to 12volt.
I am wantring to know has any one actually done it. My missus has bought a jap import SWB gq and we are looking at sorting it out as a tough tourer. we dont want to be forking out for two batteries every time they are changed, and just for ease of finding parts and fitting aftermarket accessories we want to go 12 volt.

It might be easier to stick with what you've got, and run step-downs for your 12v accessories. Sit down with a pen and paper and start making a list of all the dedicated 24v parts your car currently has, then work out a costing for the 12 v replacement.
Things that come to mind are:
- Dash cluster
- blower fan
- wiper motor/s and pump
- all lights (interior and exterior)
- depending on motor type, fuel system/ignition system
- alternator
- flasher can
- starter motor
- radio
- A/C compressor clutch (not sure if it will work on 12v)
And on a side note, i didn't realise that they had 24v Patrols OS in the GQ series. Very interesting.

24V GQs arent they safari ?????
Seriously the 24v jobies are nothin to be worried about
Major problem people have is when replacing batteries , they dont replace both
If you replace both at the same time, no problems
If you need designated 12 v for extras, get a 24 to 12 v power converter put it
The ol MQ patrols are 24 v,people have had minimal troubles with those

fai bit of muckin around a lot of stuff to change, and if you need to run 12v items , just run them off one battery no need for a reducer
