gas or petrol -- gq patrol swb

i have a gq patrol swb and i wanna do heaps of long distance travel up the high country and i want to know whats better, petrol or gas because i am looking at either getting a 176liter petrol tank or having twin gas tanks and also keep my 30liter petrol tank so i will have 160 liters of gas plus 30liters of petrol. i just want to know what ppl think is better the reason why i am asking is cause my car is carby and running 35s and ppl say to go gas and others say go petrol

If you mod the carby (remove choke and shaft/disengage the BCDD) and tune the engine well, it's possible to get <16l/100km on petrol. Mine is dual fuel, on gas it's a slug and you really have to rev it. On petty it goes really well, probably a third as much power again and lower in the revs too. Economy wise, I recently got 355kms out of 80 litres of gas and 343kms from 55 litres of PULP. Mostly highway on 35"big horns but some off roading too. Apart from power, the other downside with gas is you can't carry extra.

The only issue with gas is availability. If you want to spend a week in the high country going on daily drives with mates then you will be heading into the nearest major centre every 3 days, then you will use 1/2 the gas going there to get gas and returning to camp. I have had straight LPG in comp trucks and thats fine for short course stuff but as soon as I wanted to do a Persuit, no go, I had to cut and run 1/2 way through. I had 161 liters of lpg.

you'd be hard pressed doing a week in the high country without going through a town that has lpg. i recently got twin tanks fitted along with a new impco system to my wagon. got 280kms to 100l of gas in the bush so had a range of just under 600.

thanks for you views on it i have spoken to james at pgs and he said put 176liter petrol tank in the rear and put 60 liter petrol tank behind my seats so that solves the problem
