V6 4runner aftermarket extractors and exaust?

Post by JRosenhain »

looking at getting some high flow extractors and an exhaust for my V6 runner.

ive got a couple of quotes that seem a little ridiculous.

wondering if anyone has done these mods and if theres a place in melb that will do it for a decent price?

If it's less than $1200 then the bloke quoting it has never done it before.

It is an absolute bastard to fit extractors to these engines in the 4 Runner engine bay.

I paid $1200 for headers and 2.5" hi flow exhaust fitted, 4 years ago. The guy who did it said the next person wanting that done would pay a heap more.

Cheers

Pretty much what Struth said.

My old one (before the lex v8) ran hurricane extractors (bout $300 at the time)....took me a full days work to get the old manifold out and the extractors in, and that was with a 3" bodylift, which would have made things a lot easier.

Finished product went very well but. Did twin 2", no cats, into single 2.5" with a straight through muffler. Also had a K&N filter and intake silencer removal.

damn, that sounds like a job..

i was quoted $1600 and thought that was a bit steep, hence, here i am here asking questions.

perhaps the $1600 isnt too far out. may be better off putting the cash towards a 1UZ

Yes you are much better off mine goe's/went better then the any 3vze and use 2-5l/100km less fuel

I did have extractor and exhaust on mine and it was what everyone else is saying, horrible job took 1 bloke 10 hours to fit and they would charge the next bloke much more then the $1200 they charged me. They made a big difference in mine was geaps better on hills and sounded great :D
if it ain't broke send it to me i'll fix it!

ultimately, the 1UZ would be the way to go. but, thats if you have the 5K+ to spend doing the conversion.

im curious as to how much the headers and exhaust did for the cars performance? im not so much wanting the car to be fast, im more interested in off-road performance and most importantly, improved towing ability. sick of towing bikes and boats on highways with little power and overtaking ability.

could any of you fellas who have done the mod fill me in on the extent of improvements?

I had kept the original manifolds and had a 2.5" system installed with high flow cat, muffler and sports resonator for $650.
It made quite a nice improvement in driveability and low down torque plus it revved easier. Overall power gains werent huge but it just made it much nicer to drive.
Didnt go extractors due to cost and the exhaust shop said that the main benefit is in the cat back system for these motors anyway.
