Cutting holes in your bonnet

Just looking for what has been done to mount a scoop on an 80 series as in what meathods to cut and choices of scoop. Seen plenty of GU scoops but who wants to be like a nissan? Waiting for the nissan feedback on that one.

What is the scoop for? Looks or function for a topmount intercooler? I agree the patrol scoops on the 80's just aren't right.

What about the current hilux scoop, but they are simmiliar to the gu one...

Or the new cruiser V8 TD bonnet scoop? (if they are removable)

The new colerado scoop looks the goods and has the wide look like the V8 ones.

everytime i cut holes, i put clear contact down to stop paint chipping.

First things first....check the prices on new scoops....

Fark me they are expensive.....

Now decide whick one you are gonna get.

the colorado, hilux & cruiser V8 TD ones are way to expensive to be putting on as a buy new...

go to a wreckers with the measurements of your bonnet and find a write off with a scoop that fits....

i cut mine with a grinder, probably not the best way to do it but it works, gu scoops were only $120 when i got mine, the hilux one was around the $400 mark

Gonna look at what i can fab up in the scoop department out of ally. Not real keen on a top mount air to air because i don't want it getting the engine bay heat when offroading and driving in soft sand. I want it to add some more air into the bay as well as allow more room for a water air cooler. Was looking at the pwr kits but still not convinced yet. Looked at the laminova and would love one but its the cost and time customising it thats the killer.

You don't really need want air being forced into your engine bay behind your radiator. Can prevent air from flowing through it. Your better off with a rear facing vent. I got a A9X Torana scoop on my 80 It works a treat for keeping the engine bay cool. I used a 1mm blade on my 5inch grinder and cut to cut the hole out and it worked a treat just take the bonnet off so you have easy access and can direct the sparks away from parts you don't want them to hit.

what do you mean time customising it. once i have done mine all the hard work is done for you
