1hz 79 series fuel system question

general question. I have a 2002 79 series cruiser. did a service on it the other day but not sure about the fuel filter. there is the filter itself which is no dramas but what is the first storage unit next to the filter. fuel lines from the tank are running to it just not sure if it is a filter or some sort of fuel surge tank?? maybe something for the duel tanks don,t really know. any one have any ideas.

First is a pre-filter, that you change just the element inside and rubber o-rings, the main filter you screw off the water sensor/drain underneath, then the main body of the filter, and throw away/replace the whole filter and body.

Sometimes it is easier to remove the mounting braket for the filter/s to remove from the head off of the car.

Have a container ready to catch fuel when you remove the water sensor/drain, pipes, etc.
