Hey all,
I'm after some knowledge. maybe someone has done this with the 4.3 diff gears ive seen them in the gu. today i pulled up behind a lifted 4.5 gu and its rear carrier seems larger then say a 3lt. it wasn't laminated was pretty standard. i was under the impression that all gu diffs appeared the same externally.
to anyone who has slipped gu diffs and gu steer box and gu booster/ master cyl how do they do in a gq 4.2 with 35's?? much difference being only a difference of around 20% of a rotation of the tail shaft more.
and do you need different adapted panhards. i'll figure it out but some isight would be great.

i have put in a GU front + rear diff and gu sterring box and sterring pump.
The panard rods if you got after market ones you just need to change the ends and then they pritty much bolt up i have the diff's with the 4.6 ratios and it makes HUGE difference. The brakes are heaps better i had a look at the gu master cyclender and its not much difference

I'm about to fit GU diffs to my GQ and have been wondering if I can still use my GQ steering box ? I'm currently running an adjustable superior draglink, if it makes any difference.
Also wondering whats different with the panhards ? Is it just bushes ?

I didn't think the panhards were any different. It was my understanding that the drag link is different as the steering boxes are different so you need a draglink with GQ end at steering box and GU end at the swivel hub.

If you have a GQ you can swap diff ratio's with any H233b fitted rear diff GU patrol.

so the 3.0l have a H260 front and a H233b rear if i wanted both h260's i would need a 4.5 manual rear housing with a 3.0 centre or both 2.8 centres to get 4.6 or change my crown wheels and pinions on the 4.3's. reason being the h260 rear looks tough and slightly shaved at the bottom
i do have adjustable panhards so i am assuming i'm going to just change diff bush.
also just a side note did anyone have to snip a tiny bit of the chassis mount to allow the panhard to travel up and down. anyway back to the conversion....
i haven't seen a gu master cylinder but are the lines gonna be in the same spot ish or am i going to be bending them into new places. i've also read not to get the abs model.
with the gu diffs being a wider wheel track i'm assuming the width is gained at the hubs and not with wider perch spacings gu chassis's being similar to gq.
and with running a box and diff i will just need to remove my old gq ends from my drag link and buy gu ones.

correction can't swap centres between H233B and h260... but what h260 has 4.3 gears?????? also to see what diffs your car has standard on the plate on the firewall it will say trasaxle

I've seen a master cyl and booster from a Safari GU 3.0d and the mast cyl is a lot bigger than the GQ cyl.

I paid $2300 for a pair of GU diffs complete, calipers, the brake lines etc and old mate swapped the centres for a set of 4:3s for the same money!!money_killer wrote:f/r complete diffs normally go for $1000-$1500 each.

I have fitted GU diffs and GU steering box into a GQ on a mates truck.
We used the GQ master and booster.
The front panhard is the same but depending on lift you need to use a adjustable GU rear(it kicks out and back in around the pumkin on the diff)
You need a GU steering arm due to the added lenght and different tapers.
The h26o rear diff is in various models except 4.2 diesels and 2.8td. I have seen them in 3l, 4.5l and some 4.8's from memory.
3l h260s will have 4.3 ratios. there is no real advantage running the big rear diff. Pinion size is the same between both. It just becomes a land anchor.

HG indicates a H233B rear diff, with a 233mm crownwheel
HH indicates a H260 rear diff, the major difference is that it is a 260mm crownwheel and a different rear housing to accommodate it.

H260 rear diffs in GU 3.0L are extremly rare. Most 3L GU's run H233B, all 3L ratios are 4.375:1

Yes the crownwheel is bigger but the pinion is no bigger!!!!!! For the size gain you want an increase of strength of all components but with the same pinion as the small diff why bother!!!!! H260 is rear only. All fronts are h233
Try turning by hand your wheels at the wheel studs, then try at the tyre...

bottom line when someone says they have gu diffs they could fool you by having gu brakes on a gq diff lol
so stronger and wider but mostly unchanged
all you need are some offset rims you've got the efi twin piston brakes and stronger cv's and bam cheaper then gu diffs

Wrong......I have a series 4 3.0l wagon, 4.1 ratios here.
I am looking at putting in GU diffs into my old Maverick, I wasn't aware of the rear panhard being different. or is this only if you use a H260 diff housing? The rear panhard on my 3.0 wagon is straight.
