Sub tank valve options

Hey guys, got my sub tank fitted up now.
Just trying to work out how to go between the two.
I'm leaning more towards using them as two seperate tanks with a pollak vavle but they're $150 brand new.
How do the 80 series system work? i rang the wreckers yesterday and they told me they pump from the sub to the main. do they all do that or just the petrols?
What is it i should be asking for?

The diesel 100 series that we are driving at work here takes fuel from either tank seperately. I've never known landcruisers to pump from the sub to the main. Patrols do that.

Yeah that's what i thought too. hmmm
I can imagine maybe the petrols might so you only have one high pressure fuel pump.
But let's not get distracted, i'm only running a diesel so no need for high pressure pumps.
it should be the same sort of setup on old 75 series utes too i would imagine!
Just wanna know what i need to ask for when i ring the wreckers

Petrol 80s have a seperate transfer pump, not sure if it pumps from sub to main or from sub to engine.

I fitted one to my system to pump from sub to main and it is pretty slow.

Ended up fitting a Holley blue pump which will transfer 60 Lts in about 8 min's.

Hmmm yeah was considering just pumping straight into the main tank but i'm just liking the idea of two seperate tanks.
And how much is a decent pump like a holley blue or a carter gonna cost?
i know i could go the cheaper option of a facet type pump but i lived with that tickticktick for long enough i'll be fine without it!
But yeah if it's gonna be 150 odd bucks for one of those pumps i'll just stick with getting a brand new pollak valve

facet make a rotary low pressure high volume pump, it doesn't tick but is loud for a rotary, they work quite well, i have one as lift pump, but are dearer than the tick tick ones

ah really?! hmmm yeah still thinking seperate tanks will be a better option.
Anyone know how the 80 series operate yet?!

Diesel has sepereate pickups with a valve to switch between tanks.

Petrol pump from sub to main, with 1 high pressure pump in the main tank.


grab the parts from a wrecked 60 80 or 100 diesel, should be cheap as chips for the valve etc.

ok went down the wreckers this morning and had a good old sticky beack under an 80 series. From what i could see even the 4.5 petrols had 2 seperate valves too.
So i've got one for the feed hoses which is 3/8 and one for the return hoses which is 5/16. The guy couldn't understand why i needed both (but i went thru and explained why, think he lost interest)
But either way got both valves for $90. probably could have bargined more but i was happy enough with that! just gotta mount them and wire em in now!
