Hi all.
Saw the engineer about my GU today to get the engine conversion signed off.
Everything went well except suspension is sitting too high and the speedo is out too far.
The lift is apparently a pedders 2" lift (came with the car) but as there is little weight in the car ie: no bullbar, single battery etc it measures around 3"
Need to get the car signed off this week so I was thinking of putting in a mates standard height springs but im worried they could pop out with the shocks being too long.
I have to drive about 45mins on a relatively smooth country road to get to the engineers place. Any thoughts on whether it will be safe or not ?
The other issue with the speedo is it is out more than 10% I have seen Marks 4x4 have a little box but am curious if there are any other options. The speedo is out approximately 14%.
I have already changed diff gears to suit the conversion so this is not an option.
Cheers !

Modifying Suspension Setup and Speedo for Engineer
Re: Modifying Suspension Setup and Speedo for Engineer
As long as you do not go offroad the shocks will be fine. With the speedo did you swap the gearbox with the conversion. If so swap the speedo sensor over back to the original.

The GU was a 2.8td and I swapped the gearbox over to the 4.2
The engine is a L98 6L running 4.1's on 33's. So the swapping the speedo sensor should get me within 10% ?
Cheers

Re: Modifying Suspension Setup and Speedo for Engineer
Speed sensor is still original, the transfer case was not changed.
Speedo is out because of diff ratio change from 4.6 to 4.1
You can use the jaycar kit speedo corrector, which is alot cheaper than the marks one. I have one here made up you can have for $75. They are resonably easy to fit, just need to tap into the speed sensor wire at back of dash, and ignition and ground. I can tell you the wire colours.
As for springs as long as the shocks don't bottom out you will be fine. Only thing to watch will be the front driveshaft may get close to the exhaust with no lift, so just don't hit to many big bumps.

Re: Modifying Suspension Setup and Speedo for Engineer
Thanks Steve.
Shoulda just moved to queensland it would have been much easier.
Can I get to the wire easily, without pulling out the dash ? The wire colour would be great too.
Thanks for the offer on the jaycar unit but I need to get one in tonight.
BTW Engineer was happy with everything else

Hey,
You will need to pull the instrument cluster out to do it properly. you could tap into the speed sensor wire under the car but not recomended, and you still need to find a ignition supply anyway.
The speed signal wire is either grey or light blue, not sure which is the signal and which is ground. If you have a multimeter check for an ac voltage on one of them. If you don't then just go trial or error.
Ignition supply will be white and black, black will be earth.
