A fellow down here had something that this done to a set of Patrol diffs - it cost about $400 i think - so that should give you an idea about what it would cost to do it to a vitara diff / axels.

You could use a sierra axle if thats the case same size splines eta as a Vit .. pretty sure bearings etc are very similar as well ... there lies at least one problem IMHO, usually if you twist a rear axle, it twists at the splines...

I have a hybrid vitara rear diff.
I had a diff guy up here cut the sierra tubes off a sierra diff and weld them to the centre of a vitara diff. I use std sierra axles as the spline is the same.
You are unable to shorten one side of the vitara diff as the other is not long enough to place the pinion in the correct position for the tailshaft.

I will take some pics of the diff in the next day or so.
