6G 74 Running rough & popping thru exhaust

Post by nicinnz »

I have just bought a 1993 3.5 Pajero cause I wanted the bull bar. The truck is in great condition but is missing/running rough and popping thru the exhaust. The rear cylinders on the LH bank both have low compressions, about 80 psi, anyone struck this before? Blown head gasket, burnt valves, pistons? Truck has 200km on the clock wondering if I bother to patch it or at that kms would it need a total rebuild.?

My first guess is head gasket failed between the two low cylinders. Second guess is crack in the head, but I would expect additional signs if that's the case.

I would say first step is to take the heads off and check things out - then work out what to do from there.

Best case, new gaskets & you're away. If it's a head problem, who knows? If it's a block problem, it's even worse.
