1 inch suspension lift?

Post by 351ciofgrunt »

Hey guys,

I want springs for my standard weight LWB patrol that will increase the ride height by 1 inch and be a firm ride.

Obviously not a popular lift, having trouble finding a kit

Or maybe use heavy duty standard height springs (for a heavy GQ) that when put in to my normal weight patrol will sit 1 inch higher than standard?

I would think that spring rate would affect ride stiffness more than spring length, so stiffer springs would be stiffer, with or without 1" spacers.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I've never seen a 1 inch lifted spring. You could try standard height heavy duty coils. Often heavy duty coils sit higher when unloaded. Getting exactly one inch of height may be tricky. If by chance you get heavy duty coils that sit at standard height unlaiden, you can then stick in some spacers for the extra inch.

I'd be interested in seeing your project though but just some advice, from my experience going fast off road (which i enjoy quite a bit too). You need lots of up travel, and you can't make the springs too hard. they need to be well rated for the weight of the car or you'll be bouncing all over the track. Decent shocks, bushes, and a good sway bar setup go a long way for handling.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.

Dobinsons sell a standard height spring, it will lift the car about 1 inch over standard anyway. Speak to Martin at the Sydney office, he's good.

Also, is it possible to cut down a 2" lifted spring?

I know that this trick works for at least some other makes of cars.
