hilux wide track setups?
ok i just bought another highlux. its a 94 single cab, im going to do it up as a comp car. just wondering peoples opinions on the wide track setup from lockt up before i just bite the bullet and go out and buy it. what are the benifits of using these instead of wheel spacers and/or bigger offset rims?
im goin for about 3-4inch lift, ruf, ifs rears, highsteer bla bla bla.. all the standard stuff.
im just finding it hard to justify buying it as i will need a crapload of stuff to get it all working. if i go this path ill change over the rear diff and housing for a surf one aswell. im not saying the kit is expensive or overpriced, just that all the stuff that you have to get with it will start to add up..

if its for a comp set up why not consider a diff swap.
I have done:
60 series into hilux ( slightly wider)
80 series into hilux slightly wider and disc brakes)
currently doing GQ into hilux with coilovers (widest of the lot so far)
The 60 series rear offset is out but works quite well with a 1 piece rear shaft.
the 80 series worked well but it is only a hilux front center.
both land cruiser ones required flipping of the diff(80 series) or relocation of the tank(60 series)
the GQ doesnt have a handbrake on the diff but a transfer case hand brake fixed that.
60 series can be had quite cheap and with the bigger center will be stronger than hilux items and you can still high steer them.
just my 2c and worth considering as a diff swap is able to be engineered where wheel spacers are a big no no in most if not all states.

hmm 60 sounds pretty good. i am just trying to find the most cost effetive way. i was going to use surf centres f+r wich i was told should be strong enough and bolt strait into the front? and can get them pretty cheap.

Im using 60 ser diffs, but going v8 aswell. If f your keeping 4 cyl I wouldnt bother swapping diffs.
Wtb, 105 series rear tyre carrier, alloys and tyres.

i was actually thinking about another 3rz. it wont cost so much to get me racing to start with... then i could turbo it later.
thinking v8 would be around 6-7k and i recon i could do another 3rz for under 2k

AFAIK surf centers are the same as hilux ones so i dont think they would be much(if any stronger) the gain in track would be minor if any.
As simmo84 said if you are keeping it 4cyl then you may not bother but you can buy a whole 60 series for $500 or less grab the bits you want and sell/scrap the rest and get some coin back.

hmm ill have too double check with the diff centres. may have been the ifs hilux rear v6 ones? and its solid axle

Best thing I ever did to my old 4runner, fitting a wide track kit. You wont regret it.

talk to buddy, he seems pretty happy with what i am doing (60 front with future dirty 30's and stock rear) front with 1.5 inch spacers and rear with 3 inch which gives same track front and rear. do not go nissan diffs as dirty 30's are stronger than gu diffs and nissan diffs are a lot weaker in the housing especially at the ball ends, and thats why you see soo many people with bent nissan diffs.
if you are only going a 3rz why spend money on other diffs? yeah you can go stronger but a lux diff can be built strong in time as needed. maybe just run spacers.

If you keep the hilux front diff you can fit the IFS hubs and bolt the caliper to the outside of the mounting ears.
This way no need to buy spacers.

You could run the wider hilux rear with a 60 series front but 60's come with 4.11 ratios and you would need to buy gears to match the rear.

i rang wreckers in town tday and they want 1100 for complete diff axle to axle and 250 ea for hubs complete. seems to be alot? i would like to keep it highlux diffs and centres as i have a air locker in the shed collecting dust for it. thanks mat ill have a read and see.. from first few pages looks pretty good..
2400 for diff, hubs, rotors calipers, rear diff, hub rebuild and hub spacer its got me thinking 60 series. ill do a search and see whats involved in getting 60 diffs under it. anyone got any good links? how much track am i going to gain? is it worth it? without taking anything into consideration but width

If your talking bout a front wide track kit, I used IFS hub, Rotor spacer (with cap bolts), 60 series rotor & Surf/4Runner calipers.
If I was to do it again, would buy the rotor spacer from Bubs Customs (cheaper for the same thing).
60 series vented rotors (DBA 151) are exactly the same as Hilux RN 105, LN 106, YN 106 8/88 - 7/97, and many early cruisers (late 40 series, 60, early HZJ70, 73, 74, etc.)

the 60 diffs are the same width as a wide trac lux diff, so you will gain 1.5 inches per side. with mine i am running 60 front diff with 1.5 inch spacers and standard rear diff with 3 inch spacers. a wide trac rear diff is no stronger than your current diff, and as buddy agreed, there is no point in swapping to it as it is more work for no extra strength. with the 60 front diff you should pick one up for 150 to 250 then you need to fit new diff gears to get your gearing right, and your current hilux hubs fit, the centre is stronger, and the long side axle and cv fit aswell. getting it to fit is easy if you have the tools to correctly weld on new spring perches.
and the wide trac front end kit is not that that much better than spacers, because really it is just a spacer, your kingpins are still in the same place and the tyre is still being pushed farther away from the pivot point of the hub/housing junction

look up redbook .com it will give you track widths on any vehicle.
bout 150mm from memory. that is gain from hilux to 60 series
as i said have a look around at what is going cheap as a complete vehicle.
60,75,80,MQ,GQ all are options just use your imagination.

Go gq or gu diffs coil conversion you will get 4 inch's wider on each side and going coils ohhh mumma the flex uHHHHHHHHHHHHHH no really its pretty sick youl never bother with leafys .

going off your post and your sig i cant see much maturity or brains in yout post, that said toyota diffs are stronger in the housing, than nissan, and do not bend housings like nissans do. also redbook will not help, because different vehicles run different rim offsets so track readings are not diff housing related always. and as i said the 60 diff is 1.5 inch wider each side, not the 150mm that redbook told you, i know because i have one in my car

Zuri92 your right tojo diffs can be made stronger than nissan diffs and for a whole lot less $$$$
but why cruser diffs?
my reasoning is hilux can be made near invincible with moderate power and 40 inch sticky
better pumpkin clearance over the 9/14 cruiser centre
but in saying that i have gone cruiser diffs im my latest project but i already had them with all the good gear laying around
and if i had to spend my hard earnd cash on diffs i would go a 80 series cruiser front and a late model hilux rear as their the same width
ps one thing people haven't mentioned is the wide track kit is road legal where spacers aint (may need engineers report in your state)

long story short, the 60 diff with longs or dirty 30's is stronger than the 80, as the centre in the 80 will always let you down. especially with decent power, i have a 1uz, 195 KW, and like the idea of a turbo in the future, so i am using a strong centre, and really, whats a half inch less clearance under the pumpkin.

thanks for all your help guys. i have decided to go rear v6 ifs and widning kit. only because i found axles, housing, hubs, calipers and rotors for 500 bucks, and as said before i already have an airlocker in the shed for hilux centre. when i get the shits with breaking stuff ill replace them with 60 diffs, as ill still be able to run my highsteer setup.

If you put an 80 diff in the front, can use factory front gears from a diesel Bundera (and maybe some others) so easy as.
If you use the 60 front will need to use aftermarket gear sets - Nitro sets come to mind.
