Post by S.CoXy »

Did my hi-steer kit a while aog and have been strong arming the steering ( with fluid hooked up ) and have finaly got around to making custom brackets and hoses to mount my pump. Got it on it lines up, dosen't thro belts and works great, but now it seams to have a leak out of the botom of the box where the pitman arm bolts on :bad-words:
Any one else had this or other IFS steering box leaks and how easy are the to overhaul or where can i get his done??

I paid about $150 for a seal kit and it took me about two hours once I had the box out

The rough as guts repair is to drain the oil, tap in a nipple, fill it and call it a greaseable part. Never have to worry about leaks again.

I've looked into it before.. $450 rebuilt. Apparently rebuilding it yourself would usually only last 12 months or so until it flogs out again. The reason I was told is that it's all about getting the correct amount of 'free play' in it and it's a very precise rebuild. My mechanic said he didn't even want to touch it for that reason and you're better off getting it done by a specialist... And he wasn't just trying to back out of doing it...

What is the go with these ball bearings all ?????

Removed shaft and leavered the rused to the :bad-words: seals out.

Bit of freeze your nuts off and i got the last bit apart.

And this ( plus a bit of :bad-words: ) is how you get the ball bearing back in.

$110, 4 hours, 6 beers and a lots of head scratching and the box don't leak no more!!!!
