FJ40 with 1hz wanting to turbo it

Post by bejjal_fj40 »

hey guys,

I have a fJ40 1978 with a 1hz diesel and I would like to bolt a turbo on, but everyone i talk to tells me to just to leave because more then likely to throw a rod.
or to put a 12ht in the old girl thought i would get a few opinions on the view.

cheers jacob

There would be thousands of 1hz's with aftermarket turbos out there. With a sensible tune a turbo won't dramatically decrease the life expectancy - in any case the rods are the least of your worries.

my mate put a kit from ARB on his 1hz with 250,000kms on it about 18months ago. not a single problem. 3months ago changed the recomended turbo ARB supplied to a T04-z and a top mount intercooler. running 13psi and it loves it. it now has 290,000kms on the clock.

If you ever pull it down, you will see the rods are farkin bullet proof  they are beefy

the 1HZ have a weakness in the heads, so safest to tune a bit conservatively
