1hz Dyno results
Hey all,
Got my land cruiser 1hz dynoed today after iv just fitted a K27 truck turbo to
it and a 2.5inch exhaust system.
Here is the dyno results its pulling 68kw is that lil low and i got the pump tuned down as well because was blowing way to much smoke but it was boosting to 10psi now only get to around 6psi.

Re: 1hz Dyno results
That turbo is way too big for such a small motor. You would have gotten much better results from a proper sized turbo

Re: 1hz Dyno results
That graph clearly shows that no matter how much fuel is put in, it won't make a turbo that is too big work any quicker.

Re: 1hz Dyno results
Thats turbo is off something like a 6.0L engine! No wonder its giving bugger all booost. A Stock 1HDT would pull more than that.

The turbo is of a 14.7L truck lol cost me 300 bucks to do the whole thing so im not complaining. its still pulling 20kw over standard. i got a intercooler for it is it worth putting on?

DTS turbo kit (Mitsubishi TD05), boost compensator, 3 inch exhaust, fitted by West End Diesel. I think this was on close to standard tyres at the time, around 32 or 33 inch. Not sure what boost, probably whatever is standard/recommended with the kit, have yet to buy/install a boost gauge.
West End Diesel are supposed to be good with diesels, that's why I took it up there from Canberra, but whoever they got to put the exhaust on did a shite looking job, 3 inch joined to the 2.5 inch pipe that comes off of the turbo that came with the kit, ugly squashed non-mandrel bends, no flex joint, not hooked up to the brackets with rubber isolation mounts, etc..
Spoke to DTS later, and they recommended that a 2.5 inch exhaust gives better results than 3 inch with their kit.
Will get a better exhaust, 3 or 2.5 inch all the way through from the turbo, later on.
And probably will go to a Garrett GT2860/2871/2876 later.

My cruiser before turbo at the wheels was on pulling 50kw yours before you put ur turbo on pulls more than mine with the turbo.

There's always a difference between dynanometers, but there could also be a difference between the condition of parts pre-turbo.Wadezz wrote:My cruiser before turbo at the wheels was on pulling 50kw yours before you put ur turbo on pulls more than mine with the turbo.
A better way to measure dicks would be to post up some 0-100 times.

Re: 1hz Dyno results
All dynos are different the main thing is that they are repeatable. Unless you get two cars running on the same dyno that would be the only way to compare. Ive spent alot of time on engine and chassis dyno's and chassis dynos are the worst for varying results. Yes they are repeatable but to many variables (tyre size, diff ratios (huge difference in nm readings) and stall convertors with automatics) all change results.
You gained 17more kw at the wheels by installing a turbo thats a good gain.
My 1hz has a front mount air to air intercoller (in a 75 series) and at03 off a factory rb30 turbo (vl turbo engine) runs 15psi and makes 87kw at the wheels with 35's. On the same dyno with 31's, no intercoller and 10psi it made 77kw, and before that well i dont know it was slow so id say around the 50-60kw mark. Aslong as you can see gains each time thats what matters. Ive been in peoples cars that rekon they have 100+kw at wheels and i know mine would smoke theirs.
A good intercooler setup is well worth it imo.

Re: 1hz Dyno results
I can't find my scanned results but here are the numbers:
Pre turbo install:
96 hp 166ft pounds
After turbo install: Conditions, 8 psi, barely touched the fuel, no intercooler, 34 inch tires, no pump mods - at the wheels.
123 hp 222 ft pounds.
I now run 15 pounds, water/air intercooler, boost comp being installed as I write this, fuel is set moderately. I'll dyno it as soon as I have everything re-installed.
Here is a Video of the dyno run:

Re: 1hz Dyno results
I find them interesting to see how different turbos perform, not against each other for outright power/torque, but to see what sort of gains they give afterwards compared to before, and where they kick in in terms of revs, for example.wagone wrote:Aslong as you can see gains each time thats what matters.
Mine doesn't really do much until around 2500rpm, I am interested in seeing if other DTS turbo kits do the same, and if other turbo choices kick in at lower revs.
Rather than being a dick measuring contest as oldmate suggests, I am interested in seeing how other kits work. He is the only dick in this thread with stupid suggestions such as 1/4 mile times, if he isn't interested in comparing dyno results for the same engine then maybe he should STFU.

Re: 1hz Dyno results
When i had a 1HZ in the truck it was as follows:-
-47kw / 276nm @ wheels before turbo (35" tires)
-80kw / 520nm @ wheels after turbo, 3" exhaust and boost comp. (35" tires), 12psi
-95kw / 597nm @ wheels after fitting PWR front mount (35" tires), 11psi, fuel adjustment
Was a DTS kit, also with some type of "secret squirrel" injectors (NFI on specs), all done @ West End Diesel, Sydney. Made full boost at approx. 1700rpm, and gave up the ghost at about 3100-3200rpm. EGT's max @ 470deg post turbo.
Then i sold it, and put 1HDFTE / 5 speed auto in it. The 1HZ's got fark all on this combo, should have done it years ago instead of spending coin on the 1HZ

Re: 1hz Dyno results
I think ill put the intercooler on, talked to turbo tech bout it but they recon i am going to loose power because im only boosting at 6psi. I've had a good think about it and dont understand how i would loose power but they also told me this turbo would not even boost which it does. i had it boosting to 12pis with pump turned up.

I can understand what you are saying and that would be a great conversion, but my hzj79 1HZ has 4 relays and a glow timer - that's it as far as electrical goes - that is nice and simple just the way I like it. Oh, and I can't get that engine here:)slowhilux wrote:

Re: 1hz Dyno results
A good combination would be the a440 4 speed auto (mechanically governored) and a 1hd-ft. You can convert the fte back to mechanical fairly easily, but with a bit more expense. Although how the a440 holds up to the torque is questionable.lshobie wrote:I can understand what you are saying and that would be a great conversion, but my hzj79 1HZ has 4 relays and a glow timer - that's it as far as electrical goes - that is nice and simple just the way I like it.
