i cant find the info i want on the site so..

i got a factory 4.2 efi engine i want put a turbo onto it, sum like t3/t4. im going be leaving it fuel injected at the moment so my question is do i need run a computer? or is there ways around it like running malpassi fuel pressure regulator, will i need upgrade the fuel pump, and what injectors people running.?

so any info from others with turbos 4.2 all your info is welcomed :lol:

A reg alone won't suffice, the injectors are quite small, you may be able to run small amounts of boost by using premium fitting a reg and retarding the timing but performance and economy would be poor. It is an issue as a rising rate reg beyond a 1:1 ratio will usually force the fuel pressure beyond the stock pump. ie; If you have 40 psi fuel pressure standard and you have a 4:1 reg running 10 psi you will require 80 psi if fuel pressure 40+40. Most stock pumps are good for 4 bar or 60 psi of fuel pressure, an 044 is 5 bar or roughly 75 psi. At 75 psi fuel pressure most fuel injectors become unstable and can fail to open correctly(lean out) or blow open.
We do a wire in chip that can drive up to two supplimentary injectors that works effectivly on medium perfomance engines, recently built a custom turbo kit for a 2.0L 2008 MX5 as nothing was commercially available using this method.
The chip allows modification of the timing and fuel MAP within limits and computer boost control .
You can also fit larger injectors with this chip.

Given the fact you mentioned "injected", you are talking tb42 petrol not diesel is that right?

Just to clear things up for other people that might be getting confused here ;)

I've tried all this before on my patrol TB42 , you can't get away with the standard injectors and pump . I ended up using 550CC injectors and a walbro 500 hp intank pump then piggy backed with a Haltech interceptor . Was Ok , but since then have gone to a full management system and mate what a difference !! Spend the cash and do it properly you wont regret it.

I would have to agree that aftermarket management is the better option. Wire in chips are limited by the factory ecu in regards to a lot of parameters such as where closed loop fuelling occurs and timing adjustment is usually limited +/- 12 degrees.
I lean towards Wolf or Haltech as they are local products with good support and substantially cheaper than Motec.

soo going have spend fair bit money, got quoted 11g for it be turboed and tuned, no rebuild. how cheap can i do this. ?

Depends how fast you want to go !!
My original set up was not too costly EG :-
Low mount diesel manifold MTQ $500
Ebay GT30/40 rip off $350
Oil and reurn lines $120
Fuel pump Walbro 500 Hp $185
550CC mazda 13Bturbo injectors $350
Ebay Fmount Intercooler $285
Haltech interceptor piggy back $900 ( this limited the amount of power to be had due to timing adjustment limits and trying to run such big injectors at low engine speeds)
Exhaust dump plumbed to original 2.5 system and inter cooler piping $220
Made about 210 rwhp at 10psi
Now the turbo i have fitted cost more than that whole set up
But it goes like stink!! :lol:

ditch the ecu, the wire in trick joel talks about works, and it works good for the price, but at the end of the day the std ecu is a POS.

go a full aftermarket, autronic, wolf 3d etc
