How much boost

Post by woodiesGU »

Just wanting to know how much boost can you get out of a TD4.2 non intercooled without playing with the injector pump. Its a 99 GU wagon and another thing is what is it standard (boost) from factory.

Boost is useless without fuel. Running 20psi from a stock setup won't do your EGT's any favours, as the intake temps will be hella-hot. Saying that, with a decent tune i think the GU TD42T's can get over 100rwkw - i'm sure someone that owns one will post up their results.

Stock boost would be between 5psi and 8psi.

So running between 10 to 15 psi shouldnt make things to hot or cause damage to the motor.

if u were going to run 15psi mate i would deff fit an intercooler even a front mount or top mount, but your going to have to play with the pump timing and fuel to get some decent power out of it, have u upgraded dump pipe and zorst?
mq patrol, zorst, spotties, lft ect

:?

even 10000psi wont make your egts any hotter....

More boost = Lower EGTs
More Fuel = Higher EGTs

rich vs lean determines your Egt reading....

So there's no difference in EGT's on a vehicle running charge air temp of say 30C compared to the same vehicle with a charge temp of 130C?

its stuff all on the gauge,, leaner the better.. standard tuneup any place will do for td42 turbo is turn fuel 1/8 to 1/4 of turn on fuel and bump up air to 12 - 15psi.. and even that is barely noticeable..
before i did my motor up i had 3inch zorst, dump pipe, standard turbo and standard fuel pump and i turned fuel 1/3 of turn and ran 20psi boost.. ran very lean.. still to slow though.

This is a bit off topic, but have you put any air temp sensors into your new setup? Some of the data from the Laminova threads is pretty interesting re: charge temps.

Ben's truck (one of the Laminova guinea pigs) has one or two from memory - maybe give Andy a call (dieseltec) and see what they've used.

Ok guys thanks for the info I'll get the 3" pipe and intercooler done than take it from there.
Does any one know of a good Diesel tuner in Sydney?

Your saying that difference between a bog stock TD42 and one with a 3" exhaust, more fuel and boost is braely noticable? Don't think so mate, it's like night and day - it may not be like 150rwkw + but there definitely is a big improvement.

yeah look maybe i am a bit of a rev head, but maximum tune from standard setup or even with the3inch zorst dump front mount intercooler, 15psi and fuel turned up is certainly good enough for some people.. i myself cant bebotherd waiting half an hour to get to 100km/hour then backwards in gears on most hills.. the setup i have now suits me how i want it.. yes i have spent the dollars but i am happy with it and there is no hill i cant do in 5th gear. and in the bush doesnt matter what gear i choose the bastard will pull and pull.

Are you going to get pre and post mod dyno readouts? If so, make sure you post up the results for other peoples future reference.

Are you going to look at fitting a pyro? If so, it might also pay to get a bung welded in your dump while doing the exhaust upgrade.
