Anyone know what the go is with them ?

The ones that came on it are more like puddle storage units.

To be fair there is a sticker on them that says something along the lines of "These boxes are not waterproof, storms can blow water under the seals." etc. etc.

However they will have small pools of water in them pretty much all the time, whether it's been raining or not... seems like theres faint water on even on the top and sides so I'm thinking maybe condensation. There's nowhere for it to drain though. Doesn't help the seal has a split that hasn't been siliconed or anything and it's at the top so I'm thinking a little bit of rain might be getting in there.

Now at the moment they're pretty much useless to me... can't really think of anything I'd want swimming in water. Just not sure if I should bother trying to seal them/put draining in, swap them for something else or ditch them entirely. Annoyingly it's a bit of a compromise as it's a daily/trade ute/light 4wder. I guess less stuff hanging out the bottom is a good thing, I was thinking of ditching these and going for ones between the cab and wheel arch. Even then I'd be worried about the same thing happening and I guess how well they'd stand up to a small creek crossing or large 'puddle'.

Work out whether you have enough tray space and put a good sized tool box on the tray, or if not enough space on the top, maybe think about recessing the tool box into the tray.
If thats not an option for you, then maybe get some decent boxes put like you said, between the cab and rear wheels.
In saying that, decent tool boxes arent cheap though.

Well I'm thinking going two toolboxes on the tray on both sides and a ladder rack... but still the more storage the better in my case. Was actually considering for the undertrays if I could put an aux battery in one and have the other for recovery gear/tie downs or similar.

But these ones are useless.

I know what you mean though, Ideally I'd go a trademate or something but they're worth more than the car.

Try a small hole in the bottom.
Put a false floor in to hold stuff above any sitting water.

I had exactly the same issue with my old ute's toolboxes.

mucked around for ages with em.

ended up with 3 small holes. (5/16)

2 in the botton at opposite ends/corners
1 in the top - drilled thru the inside back panel.

Then I put a raised rubber matt across the whole bottom.

This lifted all the tools etc up out of any water. And allowed any moisture than got in - to get out !

I redid the seals on mine 3 times - but could never get then 100% water proof.

Mine were basic boxes though.

Do the seals actually touch the lid? There may be a gap so a new seal may be the go. I redid mine with a seal that I got from the wrecker....just a boot seal from car did the trick and put the join at the bottom.
