Remember the days

Post by Muddy999 »

Just reading Mikes posts, I have to shake my head and remember the days we had. The usual score was that we would get a phone call out of the blue at about 5pm on a Friday night anf the WARFS NSW crew would be put into action by about 5.45pm for a 'trip'. Either that or we would spend fortnight oganizing a trip, to have me the planner, toss the map at Mike with the comment 'you lead.'
Yep those were the days and the blokes are some of the best mates I have ever made, though who could forget...

- I recall sitting at the Mean Fiddler (the unofficial WARFS NSW pub at Rouse Hill in Sydney), having a beer and getting a phone call from Mad Dog (name withheld to protect his identity.) He had just about dropped his Hilux down a 30 foot valley and was looking at dropping it even further down a 50 foot vertical drop. WARFS went into action on the rescue mission (totally terrifying one potential new initiate) to save Mad Dogs Arse...again.
- Me telling everyone to meet at Windsor McDonalds at 7am and saying to Mike 6.30am and him still being late.
- The Kilo of meat incident!
- The incident that ended up with my wife being known as the 'bubble biter.'
- Hens meetings.
- 'Sleep in the swag...I gaurantee it is not going to rain and if it does...I WILL SLEEP IN THE SWAG!.'
- Why is it that Mad Dog is also known as Swampy and how his mobile phone had a swim in some Yalwal water...
- Who remembers 'The Sawpit.'
- Long conversations over what is better the CIG locker or the Deroit?
- Ceramic clutches V normal.
- How often the WARFS crew would be called in to fix my Rocky.
- "YA BACKED OFF!"
- Homestead.com

So many good memories and it is a shame that we all ended up being spread over the East Coast (or inland for some of us.) We really should organize a reunion... (Mike...you lead.)

Some random images, I do not who took what so I will just credit them with WARFS NSW. I also apologise if I have doubled up any that have been previously posted.

Some more random images. Most of these images were taken on a Canon EOS 500, on anything from 200 to 400 ASA film with either a 35-80mm lense or an 35-200mm lense, unless otherwise stated.

Dodgy brothers.
Myself and Rob M after I damaged my truck again on a trip.

Have to get ready for work, however I will post some more images tommorrow, including some of the snorkel. Mike was right, it is an Airflow snorkel from an MK Nissan Patrol. However you cannot get them any more as far as I am aware.

Mad Dog.
He started with a Rocky and in the space of three years went through three four wheel drives. MD would give anything a go without fear of the consequences. On the Sugarloaf trip, he started with a brand new set of Mud Terrains and walked out with them down to about 30%. He could not let something beat him. About two weeks after this shot, he rolled this Hilux down a 30 foot hill backing into his home driveway and was lucky to walk away, the reason and possibly ruptured brake line and a slow leak of brake fluid.

The original WARFS NSW Trip. Back in 1999 I believe, a few of the original WARFS NSW members got together for a run into the Watagans State Forest on the Central Coast of NSW. It was there that they were introduced to the Sawpit, a great little muddy track, which had us snatching about every 100 mtrs of the 2km track. Now I believe (or at least the last time I was there) it has been graded into a level road, with proper drainage to allow loggers in.

Certainly some fun days were had on some of those trips. Still the irony on Steve (aka maddog) rolling his Hilux in of all places reversing in his driveway. After what he would point anything he drove at and not stop still it was onquered is something i will never get over.

Now lets not forget a certain vehicle loaded to the hilt trying to turn around sidways fully loaded with passengers all in the aid of simply trying to get some firewood....and no...it will not rain if you sleep in the swag  And Heath...didn't you redesign the fuel carrying capacity of the Rocky on that trip as well? :finger:

Then there was the river crossing on the way home where a little zook tried to go sideways whilst going forward at 60kph on water...followed by me blockading some idiot on the road whilst you high beam him from behind...

Some very very funny trips...some great memories :)

Still get a chuckle over Shane sleeping the night out in the woods near Oberon when we were all having dinner at the pub...I think it actually snowed that night heheh

Man! That was the first time I went 4wheeling with the WARFS team, and I was silly enough to be one of the passengers with Mark behind the wheel of his V8 Disco!
I remember clearly the thoughts in my head while I was clinging to dear life to a flimsy plastic handle.

The man truly has skills. And he later admits that he was just using us as ballast. :D :finger:

Its all good. :finger:
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.
