Given the whole rego issue was based about insurance etc, to my belief, does that mean that the other classes will not require rego either as long as they still maintain the same specifications according to the rules.

I know for a fact that the few buggy guys out there just love to drive and compete, and wouldnt have a problem with some sort of handicap syatem to try and bring the field closer together ie compulsory bonus stages is a top idea. Just another point, Y is it that the buggy guys can admit to learning a thing or two wen competing with the cars/truggies or winch guys but some of them dont see it the other way . I know this is a generalisation and not everyone out there is the same, but why is it when we get the chance for an unregistered comp we ask the question buggies or no buggies, there should be no question other than how can we make it work for all vehicles. Its a simple fact the more people involved the more money circulating the industry therefore better for all .
Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
I think you guys have missed reading the title 'TOUGH TRACKS' - this means ***cough** tough corners!
If we have the same clowns setting the courses as usual, you will have to build new rigs that have 80deg steering lock and can jump big logs without bellying up! they ALWAYS seems to be the biggest obstacles...
To be honest focus on getting a format right first!!!!! Do you want crawling or crash and bash like TT is currently. Don't forget TT is 3 attempts, then CYA. There is no way in hell a truggy or bodied rig can compete with a buggy in that format, if you think so then your dreaming. The buggies are just so much more forgiving if you aren't on the right line, whereas a truggy/trail rig really has to be spot on to make the harder obstacles.
I applaud peterK and the rest for offereing this up for discussion, but IMO sort out a rough format and structure first, then offer the 'template' up for fine tuning.

While my new rig is not being built as an outright comp rig, I might do a round or two for giggles if this class was introduced.

From what I've heard - we'll need a PA system, a conference room, 5 ballpoint pens & 3 notebooks .johnsy86 wrote:i just hope half this isnt "all talk", and no one shows up wednesday to support this lol.
We can only hope that it will be a good turn-out with good discussion. It will take more that one meeting to get the new class up and running - but we've received a good response from people prepared to help with setting up tracks and officialling.

Really?? You first reply sounds more like you would rather shit can the idea all together. Its a totaly waste of time trying to come up with a format first if no one is willing to support the idea. And I gather from your reply you really have no intrest in supporting it.1MadEngineer wrote:I would love too help out..

Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
Can you fill us in on what the format is/was/or maybe? To be honest i just reread the thread and there is no conclusive discussion as to what we are supporting? all 'WE' can deduce is that is is the same format as the current competition. And if that is so, my initial comments stand, as I too agree whit you that vehicles like campys would dominate in the 3 attempt style format. So far there is only chit chat about what class or classes there are to be, it would be nice to hear some discussion on what sort of style comp would be most beneficial to all.RUFF wrote:Really?? Hi Greg,
We have absolutely no idea yet what will come of the discussions - we have thrown the topic open for discussion to find out what people want as a comp for these vehicles.
It may still be in a Tough Tracks format as far as scoring and points are allocated - with tracks designed to suit the truggies and / or buggies. Or it may be in a Tuff Truck format (if Tuff Truck will allow us to use their format / rules), or it could be something totally different.
If we get enough support - and it appears that we will - then we will end up with a new competition in SEQ for unregistered vehicles - which has to be a good thing. Whatever the format is will depend on the outcome of the discussions. As a club, not a business, we will be asking what competitors want and, armed with the information, the club members will thrash it out and vote on what format the event will be.
NOTE to EVERYONE - 'club members will vote' - so if you want to vote then join up !!! - Everyone is welcome to the 1/Sep meeting for discussion - and any subsequent discussions that follow - but only club members can vote.

Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
just in case i dont make it to the meeting can it be discussed that all vehicles in the new class are required to have a powered winch like all current classes will be required to do next year.
Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??

I will be at the meeting and my 2 rigs are in the Comp if it gets off the ground. I will be a Saturday Competitor only as you know and hope there is a substitute rule for a Sunday driver. If not I don't really care as I just want to drive and have some fun. I think this is a great idea and I personally think buggies and truggies should all be in the same class. I think you'll find the guys that will compete won't really care about the type of cars and will just look forward to competing in a large field. All the buggy v truggy comments are old and so far I would put my money on the truggy's in natural terrain. Campy and Rhett have been the only ones to drive a certain track unassisted and a number of buggies have tried and failed so untill a buggy shows me they can drive the track it's TRUGGY's rule for me.
Peter I recon you'll get in the Buggy/Truggy class

I did a quick count of the cars I have seen and there would be another 10 at least ready to enter if they choose to.
I also know of 5 others that are being built/tested which non of the usually 4wders know about.
If you make it available they will come.
Hopefully those who have cars that chat a lot on the net will also join in.
I would be more than happy to lend a hand in setting up prior to the day, but sorry I won't be helping on the day because I will have my big butt in the car for a change and look forward to beating Mitch with spider man the blue car hasb't got a hope . Mitch I promise I'll have a box of tissues for you when you watch me drive as the GU front end has been given a flogging and just won't break.

Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
its a pity all the "stand alone" comps went down the gurgler ... at least if this gets up and running you guys will have somewhere to compete.
just remember the outlaw class would be a part of the whole Tough Tracks 4x4 Challenge event and not a separate event.
could be good for practising for Tuff Truck if the rules and specs are the same

Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
we have the ok from the club to make this class happen so now it is up to us.
as there are quite alot of truggys built and being built to compete in tuff truck it would be silly of us not to use the same vehicle specs .
because atm the buggies are down on numbers in qld they will run in the same class on the same track as the truggies . if the issue arrises that the tracks are to easy for the buggies we as a group can re asses the class and decide on the best solution .
we will be having a comp in november on the sunday after king of the rim and a track building day will be organised late october so if you want some input into how the tracks are made and designed i would prob make an effort and turn up.
the scoring system will be the same as used now in tough tracks with the exception of rear steer penalties and reverse and poss dig . we will have to discuss these further.
please feel free to post up any constructive ideas .
cheers brett

Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
Thanks to everyone who attended Wednesday night's meeting - it was a good discussion and the Club will be incorporating an Unreg Vehicles / Outlaw Class for 2011.
As per Brett's post above - vehicle specs will be as per Tuff Truck, buggies will be included as well, and we will implement the class and adjust as appropriate (if required) to have a fair competition.
Thanks again to all who attended.

Re: UNREGISTERED VEHICLES for 2011 Tough Tracks Challenge ??
I think the OUTLAW class should be that ,an outlaw class ,the only rules and restrictions should be DRIVER/NAVI SAFETY orientated,I think if you had a course where we could drive a "different from the norm" vehicle in a safe and controlled environment would lead to more spectators/competitors and a great way to put new and leading edge tech to the test. An outlaw class should be "IF YOU CAN BUILD IT,DRIVE IT AND ITS DRIVER/NAVI SAFE, RUN IT".
