Just swapped gearboxes, now have issues ** UPDATED **
Team daihatsu,
So over the weekend I put a new gearbox and tcase in my missus' 1988 Feroza (which has a mid 90's EFI motor), and all went well except for two things.. The speedo isn't working anymore and the temp gauge isn't working any more.
1. Can anyone tell me which wire i may have accidentally bumped / unplugged which has now stopped the temp gauge from working? Does the temp senders go through the ECU? If yes, then I might try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and see if it makes a difference...
2. When I plugged the speedo cable into the back of the transfer case, I accidentially pulled on the cable a little which I suspect has pullled it out of the housing behind the instrument cluster... would this have happened, or is the speedo drive gear not sitting in there correctly?

Yes the speedo cable comes out of the cluster quite easily.
The ECU coolant temp sensor is seperate from the gauge sensor. Both are at the back of the engine under the dissy and can be a pain to see let alone plug in.

( usual disclaimers )
It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

Right... thanks for the tip.
I might pull the cluster out and see if the speedo has come out of the back.
Thanks for the tips Mightymouse

Ok, I have found a loose wire hanging, which looks like it should plug in somewhere behind / under the dizzy, but for the life of me, I can't find where it plugs into. Any ideas??

Geeez.... There's not much action in these forums, is there!! I'm still having no luck with this bloody Feroza.
Can anyone advise the best way to remove the instrument cluster and also what the devil is causing my temp gauge to not work?!!?

It plugs under and a bit to your passenger's side under the dizzy.De-lux wrote:Ok, I have found a loose wire hanging, which looks like it should plug in somewhere behind / under the dizzy, but for the life of me, I can't find where it plugs into. Any ideas??
If you dive under the car from your passengers side and look up for the dizzy you should be able to see it.
It is a little metal sticking out of the cylinder head.
Re: Just swapped gearboxes, now have issues :(
Thanks for the help Mitsos. So I did some tooling around, this loose wire has to have something to do with it. I tried earthing it to the engine, and all of a sudden the temp gauge shot right up to almost max (the car was barely warm). So obviously this wire comes from somewhere and is the root of my problem, but where!! I have looked behind the cyl head from under the car, also using a small mirror to look under the dizzy and around that area. Please see the attached photos for advise...
Back of the engine block
engine / gearbox
me holding the rouge wire
Any ideas of where this plugs into peeps?

visit http://www.warfs.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in the manuals section you will see the location of the temp sensor.
Its at the back of the engine below the distributor. Or you can read the thread below.

I don't think you will need to.De-lux wrote:Thanks guys, I suppose I'll remove the dizzy cap and see if i can see it or whatever...
If I am not mistaking you can barely see it in the second picture.
It should be pluged to where the red arrow is.
If I can I will upload you a pic of mine....
No need to take off the dist. for such a job.
P.s. All wires seem messed up..... what I'm saying is the original spot it should be.
P.S.2 If you have plugged it somewhere and the temp rised to max, then you have putted it wrongly in the ECU temp sensor not the gauge sensor.
Maybe the ECU wire is in the gauge's sensor....
Look it up.
Re: Just swapped gearboxes, now have issues ** UPDATED **
That's a good point mate. I might try swapping a few of the cables and see if something changes...
Thanks
