Coloured checkerplate?

I am thinking about replacing the trim on my rear door with checker plate aluminium so I can then mount a hinged table onto it, also of checkerplate.
I personally dont like the shiny stuff and would like to roughly match the rest of the trim, which is gray.
Does anyone know if I can get coloured checkerplate?

If not, is it possible to paint or powder coat the stock aluminium stuff with a very hard wearing finish - reasonably scratch proof.

Im pretty sure you cant buy pre coloured check-a-plate but you can defently can get it powder coated in allmost nearly every colour possible. Dulux ahve a limited amount of colours but interpon have a huge range of colours and could be you better choice, nearly every powder coat company uses these drands of powder.

Or get it anodised - Dad had some Propeller checkerplate anodised black and it looks awesome. (I have some at home)

just use plain sheet.

I used polished chequer plate and regreted it big time - i'll never use the stuff again

I having been thinking about what you said Bru - perhaps just plain sheet is the way to go. If I can colour match the other metal interior bits (dashboard, various plates) it will look more factory.
I am assuming that the point of checkerplate is for grip - which I dont need for a table or trim.

I checked out the anodising Steve, found a bloke who can do it for about $40 but only in a few colours including "titanium black" which might work. It should wear better than paint.

I'm going to draw one up for the 76 and then laser cut them and move a few.

Its not worth doing these thing yourself these days - too much waste and hard to buy small amounts of sheet.

Plain Alloy. Checkerplate is so 2001!

So here's the result.

Bought some scrap 3mm aluminium (not checkerplate BJ!)from the wrecker for $33 (when some left over)
So the rear trim was replaced allowing me to mount the hinges without cutting into the door.
Painted with etch primer then charcoal hammertone.

you would be suprised how slippery checker plate is for stuff like beers or tuppaware containers or stuff like that.
