GU vibration after only 2in susp lift??

Post by smaddock »

Hey,

Just chasing up an issue with a mates GU. His is an 05 model with the 3lt td engine, 5 spd manual running 285/75/16 muddies. He has recently fitted a 2inch ironman suspension lift and now has bad driveline vibration.

The car has only travelled 60000kms from new, and before he bought it, it has a solid flywheel and new clutch installed, as well as new engine mounts (that was only a yr ago), so they couldn't be the problem. Also, he's only just had the muddies put on a month ago and are all balanced so thats shouldn't be a prob either.

The vibration comes in for less that a second under acceleration at 40km/h, but then a longer lasting vibration which according to him "felt like the car was falling apart" at 80km/h.

I build driveshafts for a job, so replaced his unis and balanced the shaft thinking these may be buggered. We took it for a test drive and the vibration was gone at 80km/h, but the vibration at 40km/h was still there. He said today though that the vibration at 80 sounds like its coming back, and it was only last friday that we put the new tailshaft in.

Now, is it possible that with only a 2 inch suspension lift that driveline angles could be an issue? I haven't measured them yet, but will be this weekend. Any other ideas as to what could cause this?

Oh, just a quick note, he said last night he hooked up his camper trailer for a few mins and took it for a drive, and the vibration all but disappeared...

Thanks guys

Yep, or borrow a set of standard road tyres that are known to be balanced and true.
