Fuel cut off switch for td42

OK, the time has come to improve the security on my GQ TD42 and I thought one way of doing it is to install a hidden fuel cut off switch. Is this something, people would recommend and is this as simple as putting a switch in the plus cable for the solenoid that sits on top of the injector pump? I've seen a couple of posts about this in the past, but they were not clear about which cable needs to be interrupted (if that makes sense).

If you after a simple immobiliser style switch.

Find the starter motor wire from the ignition barrel, this way there is no power allowing any "would be thieves" starting it even if you left the key in the ignition.

A simple push/pull switch does the job and is easy to concel under the dash. Or the use of a push and hold button.

I've used it and works.

Another option is to put a switch in the fuseable link for the ignition. I've done it this way for my comp kill switch.

A good idea slinky but with a starter motor wire the vehicle can still be push started.

With a switch on the fuseable link there is no ignition power and therefore the the vehicle cannot be started even push started.

I like the idea of the fuel kill, it would mean the buggers sit out the front of your house cranking it over to no avail while you walk out for a chat.

im assuming the ignition kill would disable the fuel system as well.

To best protect your ride you would need to know how they go about nicking them in the first place.

I.e do they simply have a few aligator clips and wire to bypass the cars harness and go straight to fuel and starter?

in which case your switch will do nothing, or do they tend to cut and twist wires under the dash utilising the exisiting harness in the vehicle?

I'm not a car theif so i dont know but would love to hear from someone who has got a car back after it was nicked.

The die hard thieving mongrels who are determined to take it anyway will likely be more organised like a tow truck etc.

Yeah but if you have an alarm system, who knows how many times it prevented it being a target, even a simple red flashing light can deter "some" thieves.

If it deters one it was worth it..

im with wozza, every bit helps. sure they can bypass this etc but how much more risk is there for them being caught when they a having to muck about and the car didnt start first time etc.

i wonder how many are ac tually taken with flat beds?

At the end of the day if they want it they'll probably get it. Every bit helps as above (but posting the switch details on the internet isn't a good idea).

If a truck is equipped with a few deterents then maybe they won't bother as above.

Dunno how many times i've told this story now but years ago a club used to have their meetings in town and used to park their trucks bumper to bumper!
They came out one night and a cruiser had been removed from the middle of the lot of them.....trolley jacks - lifted it up and pulled it out sideways
