winches to suit a 79

Hey guys another question for anyone. was looking around on e bay for random shit the other week and came across a pto winch that runs off the transfer of a 79 series same as mine. the guy was in qld and wanted pick up only but does anyone know if you can buy one of those still. cause they are strong as shit but really hard to find. would love a new one of those instead of an electric one. but can anyone shed some light on this for me...?

Does your car have the PTO output?

there is a blanked over panel on the transfer case. after studying the one i found on e bay that is what it would be for so i would say yes.

Not sure, but I think you need to make sure there is the PTO gear behind the blanking plate, not sure if just having the plate means there is the gear in there as well.

Mostly there is a section that bolts in there, and there needs to be a gear on the shaft, some have it, some dont.

Are you telling him to get an electric winch? because if you are he specifically likes PTO and i don't blame him. they're virtually maintenance free long after the poxy 2 year warranty and don't suffer half the problems of an electric winch. I check/change the oil every 6 months or after each comp and that takes about 5 minutes. About several hours shorter than the maintenance program for an electric winch and about a day shorter if the electric winch has been dunked in mud.

Clearly the tech is weak in this one luke.

OP - Drop the oil in your t- case and remove the output cover to make sure there is a gear in there to run off. If so, you should be sweet to go.

2000RPM in fifth is your line speed friend i've found. As long as your shafts are well balanced

Please explain? have you found a better way to protect the winch without having to crawl around in the dirt to replace the pin.?
