1994 Toyota Prado (70 Series) Parts Needed in PNG

Post by Swerve »

Hey All,

I'm a Nissan man so not really clued on on Yota's.

I have a uncle in Papua New Guinea with a 1994 Prado in need of parts. The 70 series Prado never came to Oz but a heap of Jap import in New Zealand. Talking with a Kiwi at work (4WD nut as well) he reckons most body parts will be interchangable with the Troopie from that year.

He's also in need of a ECU and Australia Toyota couldnt help, I called NZ Toyota and price is $4000 NZD LOL.

So I'm hoping you guys can set me straight with what Aussie parts are interchangable, I need to source this stuff and ship to PNG.

Item Description: Qty Condition Remarks:

1. Engine Control Unit (ECU) Faulty Refer attached photo
2. Front Windscreen 1 Bad/Broken
3. Front Windscreen Rubber 1 Bad/Broken
4. Rear LHS Quarter Glass 1 Bad/Broken Refer Attached photo
5. Rear LHS Tail Lamp 1 Bad/Broken Refer Attached photo
6. Rear LHS Vision Mirror 1 Bad/Broken

For item(1)-Engine Control Unit (ECU), I would prefer a brand new unit, while used parts will do for items 2-6 .

The details of the vehicle are as follows:

==============================================
[Make ] TOYOTA
[Model ] PRADO - LANDCRUISER
[Model Number ] Y-KZJ71W-PET
[Frame No. or Chassis No. ] KZJ71-0002400
[Year ] 1994

I believe looks like this

The 2-door Prado is the same as the Bundera (LJ-70 and RJ-70) in Australia, in terms of body parts.

The 1KZ was sold in other Toyotas here in Australia.

You could double check the parts on http://www.toyodiy.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, to ensure that the parts that suit his Prado are the same part numbers as listed for the Bundera.

You might be able to find the same part numbers used with the 1KZ in other Toyotas that are available in Australia, and order those parts.

Acutally, the Prado might be a little different to the Bunbera body parts.

Maybe you should put his VIN number into...
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

...and see if you can find the exact part numbers for the parts you need.

Then you can check them against Australian Bunderas, to see if they are the same.

Here are the pages and part numbers to suit his truck.

Some of them list other models that the same parts were used on.

No problem Steve.

Putting the frame/chassis number you mentioned above into toyodiy.com brings up his model.

Is he sure that the ECU needs replacing?

Might be worth opening it up and see if it has bad/leaking capacitors that need replacing, or burnt-out capacitors for resistors.

Do a search on Google for 1KZTE ECU, and see if there is anything that sounds like it might help.

This sort of thing is mentioned a bit...
http://www.toyotadiesel.com/forums/show ... php?t=7432" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, some of the window parts might be similar on other models, such as being the same size, but a different tint or something. Maybe he could measure them up, and you could check Bunderas and other SWB 70 series trucks at wreckers to see if they are the same size.

The rear tailights might be very similar on other 70 series models, and work, maybe needing wiring mods to match up the plugs, or might have different combination of brake/park/turn colours.

The rear door glass and tail light is standard troopie stuff.

It should all be available in Australia, from Toyota.
