Hi all have found a descent SD33 motor and was going to put it in my MK which has a turbo. My question is can you just swap the inlet/outlet manifolds and the diesel pump n injectors over? The motor in my MK has a blown head gasket but everything else is good. Tah all.

your non turbo will be 24v?? and the turbo motor 12v so i guess would have to swap alternator etc too.

The bottom end of the turbo motor is stronger from factory.
Your better off using your turbo bottom end.

yeah sorry obviously all the 24V things need to be swapped over. thanks it's a bit of a mission, might be easier to try and source another half descent SD33 T.

Bottom end for sd33 Na and Turbo are both the same after 1985
The only difference between the Na and the turbo is the oilfeed for the turbo and oil return.
Lots of people run a aftermarket turbo on a Na and if you keep the boost within factory specs there should't be a problem.
But if you blew the head gasket from the SD33T why not replace the gasket???
Lot quicker than swapping engine.

the only real difference between the Na and the turbo engine is the oil pump. the turbo engine runs a slightly bigger pump.
I made a mistake, engines before 1983 can vary between Na and turbo and this concerns mostly the cylinder head and not present oil jets for cooling pistons and pistons pre 83 run 5 rings.

because the gasket kit for a SD33 T is about $650 and I'm sure it would be a case of " while you're in there may as well replace the....." and lets face it the old trolls aren't worth much anyway. It's just because it has so many good bits bolted to it thats making me want to keep it going. Trying to avoid parting it out but that might be the only real option.
