Diognosis... Drive issue on t400. Toyota transfer

Post by Tiny »

So I have a chev 6.2d driving a t400 into a bj73 transfer with reduction gears, auto was purchased as a reco,d unit and I had a standard pattern manual valve body fitted, auto bloke said internals looked fine. Fitted with a b&m ratchet shifter and marks kit for auto to transfer. Lost drive and found the plate that's marks supply to mount the transfer lever to had broken (new one awaiting fitment). As I work away screwy owes me a favour and moved the rig for me and was joint to select a gear with a spanner to drive it on the trailer but when started it found drive.

Problem is it keeps jumping in and out of drive, apparently did it even when it was in what he thought was "P"

any ideas?

Transfer not entirely in a gear
sector cable not right
dodgy valve body
something else wrong with auto

any ideas of where to look and or how and what to test?

Thanks

As i said to Screwy last night. Id be checking the engine and g/box mounts first.... then the cable adjustment. Also you have mega body lift how many broken mounts you got there????. Casuing the adjustment to be out of wak
Disconect the cable jack the car up manually select gears.....does it work???.
You also have to remember Tiny the car has been sitting un moved for a long time the valve body could also be sticking internally. May need to get it hot and see if it frees up.

Thanks Matt, cars being sitting coz it lost drive, body mounts seem good and the auto is a cable selector so shouldn't be an issue with moving body anyway. The auto selectorwas brand new so it is possible the cable has stretched so that's an option. Will check the driveline bolts when I replace the faulty marks bit and will check auto fluid but can't see any oil leaks anywhere and appareny solid drive when it does gearbox mounts should also be food, brand new and very limited use but will check

thanks Ben, will take that on board, probably best I keep te wicked factor out as well :finger:

I would say it will be the shifter set up , they have to be spot on to work correctly , first make sure u are using the right cable adjuster that bolts to the box because the pro ratchet shifters come with about 5 or 6 different options , and then its just a matter of following the adjustment procedures in the manual , they are pretty easy to do but also very easy to get wrong also . We have a petrol v8 chev with a turbo 400 and patrol t case and pro ratchet shifter and we had to slightly modify ours to get it to work properly . Good luck hope that helps

Geez you two are special........

If ive ever seen the pot calling the kettle black its now.

You two have to be the biggest pair of " 4x4 whore for hire" ppl on outers....

One of you bought a car already built and proven, has done some work since with help but no major building done on your own.

The other has whored out your beer fridge and BBQ to get your hunk of shit driving and you still dont know what a wheel stud looks like....

You two are also the quickest pair to always have a dig at ppl even though you have very limited tech knowledge to back up most of what you say.

And the piss funny thing about this whole scenario is..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Both the pair of you cant drive for shit either :finger:

What crack are you smoking Tony?

I had my MQ 5 years and comped it for 3. The second Mog patrol i spent 1.5 years building it in my old mans garage and when my mum passed away and was booted from home i had to strip it and sell up..... So ive had them more then long enough. Dont know where real fast came from.

( i do however had a habit of starting projects and changing my mind a fuk load even now so feel free to have a dig about that ;) )

As far as my GQ goes, Its not what i would call built even now, it has a bunch of bolt on lift and aftermarket bolt on accessories. Its in a completely different league then the TTC boys. Their trucks are far more capable and are far more custom built then this GQ i own. If this thing had all the gear and alot of custom work on it and was up at the level these 2 boys are for ttc etc, only then your point would be valid.

I bought it with the lift kit and accessories on it cause i use it for towing, social camping weekends, shooting, club weekends and local 4x4 tracks. Its only recently ive been dabbling in the masters series and even that is by far tame compaired to TTC and Toperi and Superior etc...

Long story short, i cant see your point Tony?

Ben,

I knew you would be the one to bite when i posted that. I apologise for it being targeted at both of you. Most of what i said was more directed at Twon. He stirs fark loads and deserves it far more then you. I apologise for it seeming targeted. He knows he does it and knows why i bite at him.

As far as TTC results go, you did well for your run, no ones denying that. I was a shit driver when i comped 4-5 years ago in ttc and had a truck that wasnt as well built either compaired to you. Again its kinda apples and oranges. One day we will comp in the same comp and ill give ya run for your money
