So... My Rangie stopped again.

Post by Silver_pig_gq »

Driving to the shooting range to other day, got about 5 kms from home and the rangie karked it! It started and ran like a dream untill it warmed up (bout 5 kms) then just spat out white smoke, died and wouldnt start again, just kept spitting out white smoke when i tried to kick the engine over. So i pulled over and left it for a day untill i arranged a tow but when i got to it and tried to start it she went like a dream again! all the way home, until it got warm again and then snuff. its happened three times now, (around the house) and im leaning towards a complete engine rebuild (unless anyone has a good nick engine i can have :) ).

Sounds like the amplifier for the dizzy, does it have the electronic lucas dizzy - from about 82/83 i think they were used.

Also check the oil in the carby dampers, they are the black caps on top.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

It dosent use any oil or water to my knowledge, carbie is a 350 holley so that rules that out. and the dissy is electronic with a lumenition system in it, but if it was that why would it spit out white smoke when i try to crank her over after it dies? i was thinking something more serious like the skirt between the "oil" piston ring and the "seal" piston ring, on one or more of the pistons, being broken hence the engine runs from cold but as is warms up and the oil thins it seeps through, killing combustion therefore killing engine and as i try to restart the white smoke is way to much oil buring.
