1GGTE 4RUNNER help

Post by ryzzy »

Ive nearly finished fitting a 1GGTE to my 86 4runner and was Just wondering if anyone has had much experience with the 1st gen 1GGTE engines?
My problem is that i cannot get error codes from the motor by bridging t1 and E in the diegnostics plug.
When the engine gets to full boost it cuts out completely and the battery has to be disconnected for at least 5 or 10 minutes before it will start again. When the motor is cold it takes at least 10 to 15 seconds of cranking before it will fire and even then it runs rough for about 20 seconds. Sometimes after it has been run and then stopped it will not start at all as there is no spark... Anyone got any ideas as to what it could be or where in melbourne i could get this sorted?

Still using the factory ECU ?? If so, you will be using the factory air flow meter (between the air box and the air inlet "T" piece that feeds into the turbo's). These are a PITA, and cause these types of symptoms when stuffed. If its a Gen 1 1ggte, thens its at least 24-25 years old. Is yours water to air i/cooled?

yeah its still the factory ecu and its running a fmic. iv tried shorting t1 and e and no fault codes come up so ill try t1 to ground and see if i can get any codes out. it was wired when i bought it but im not sure who did the work. Ive worked out that if you block the fuel return while cranking the motor over it starts alot easier soo i might put a solenoid on the return to fuel pressure up while it starts.

The 'E' pin is ground, if it isn't your ECU won't be seeing a proper earth connection.

Does the car run OK with a line lock on the fuel return? or does it still cutout under boost and fail to start after that?
