4Runner "Un-convertible"

Post by lroberts »

Hey Guys,
I have a single cab 4runner which has been rolled :( and am thinking of just chopping the roof off and leaving only the windscreen :D . The plan I have so far is basically just chop off the roof, smooth and cover sharp edges and then chop the doors so they are like Subaru doors (without the top part), and of course install a decent roll bar for protection then replace the windscreen.

Does anyone know how legal this is? I know I will need a mod (blue) plate and understand that because it's a full chassis rail car the options are pretty much open to almost anything. I have everything to return the car to original if this plan doesn't happen. Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

only the engineer who will have to sign on the dotted line at the end of it can tell you if they will or wont do it and how they want it done.

lot of work and $ but if thats your thing great.

Personally I would just get a new body.

Same. I have one with no rust I'm trying to get rid of. Very tidy one too... :D

Interesting so you are turning a 4runner into a drag/rail car?

I was thinking of doing the same...making a drag car from a 4runner body.
Though I was just thinking of getting the body cut from the start of the back window. Which would make it look abit like a hilux dual cab.

All the best buddy with the project.

a few years back, convertible/topless HQ-HX Holden utes were all the go.
They were basically done as you say. But you need to leave part of the door frame to guide and hold the windows in the up position. also need the front 6-8" of the roof to stiffen the windscreen and hold sunvisors and rear veiw mirror
