LHD Headlights

Post by Lawrence »

Hi guys. just a question regarding some headlights that i had bough a while back. I hadnt noticed it when i purchased them. but they say LHD. I saw an article the other day that said that LHD is for left hand drive cars that drive on the right side of the road and that they cant be aligned properly for cars that drive on the left hand side of the road. I didnt realise that this would have been a problem, I have had a problem aligning them and I managed to have them done for me by an electrician a month ago. They throw light on the road better now, but still dont seen quite right. On top of that, the electrician told me that the bulbs that I had, which are marked 90/100 are 90 on high beam and 100 on low beam.. I have never seen this before. Has this happened to anybody before?

Are they for your GQ ? If so I think you are in trouble. As far as I know, high beam will be the same for LHD or RHD. In low beam LHD dip to the left and RHD to the right. There are all sorts of mechanisms to do this. you may be able to alter the mechanism if it's a modern light. If it's an old one(7"round) it's more likely to have ribs on the lense which you can't change.
Google "Headlamps Wiki". That should make things a little clearer.

They are actually aftermarket headlights. I was checking an the headlight lens of an Isuzu van, parked at work and it seems as if the diagonal part of the fluting is in a different direction.

i am planning on getting some RHD on saturday. The electrician aimed them, and they are throwing light much better than before, but in aiming them, i had to forgo some of the light spread to the right and on the high beam. I had read on Daniel Stern's website recently
