80 series hubs to Longfield drive flanges

Post by DIRTY ROCK STAR »

80 series hubs to longfield drive flanges
Im having issues trying to fit the lonfield HD drive flanges i got to the standard toyota hubs from 80 series full time diffs?
Anyone got any tips?

The hubs arent circular?
The drive flanges will fit but i would only be able to get 2 dowels in, which kind of defeats the purpose of the longfield drive flanges (they have 6 dowels).

Any help would be appreciated.
Have i got the wrong flanges? need new hubs?

Cheers

Are you saying that the cut outs on the OEM drive flange have corresponding cut outs on the bearing hub? I'm not at home and i can't remember if my front bearing hubs have cut outs or are circular round like the rear.

I was going to drill out my OEM front locking hubs to take an extra 4 dowels but if they're scalloped out like that then there goes that idea.

The only thing i can think of if your hub does have those scallops (and it's going to mean dollars) is to have custom hubs turned up. If the hubs are round and simply have no holes corresponding to the new flanges then just match drill them.

The hub is scalloped the same shape as the standard hub.
So yes you will struggle to fit more dowels in.
This is the problem the longfield flange allows for 6 dowels, but using the standard hub i can only use 2. So im not sure if i have been sold the wrong drive flanges or what the go is?

Perhaps i should get hilux hubs or something?
But im not receiving much customer service either.

Cheers

Bugger. Guess that means i won't be adding dowels either.

wonder if there's anyway to build up some material where the scallops are so that you could then deck it level and drill for dowels? but i'm guessing the hubs are cast anyways so that would be a proper PITA and a bit bootyfab as well.

They are all the same. You can't run 6 dowles on an 80 series.

why do you need 6 dowels? dowels are there for location not for transmitting drive! Bolt them on properly, and forget about them...

Ok cool, didn't know. What about a 60 series hub ? Will it fit onto the 80 series stub axle ? Just making some suggestions ....

The genuine 60s hub will be totally rounded like your drive flange.

After market 60 hubs i have found run the notched style.

99% sure the 80 hub and 60 hubs are the same, only difference is disk size and caliper size. i.e a 80s disk should mount to a 60s hub

Cheers for the ideas guys.
I will do some looking for 60 hubs.

The idea had been mentioned about hilux hubs.

greg, having damaged 1 standard hub (well messed it up when the studs all sheared) i just thought this was an opportune time to upgrade to longfields drive flanges.
I would have thought that the dowels would help to take some of the load.

Cheers

Benny thanks dude.

I didnt think to ask your brother, with bob in the yard he should have heaps. i am sure i saw a collection of diffs when i was there a while ago.

Longfield got back to me with :
they won't work onsome fj-80 series. is this for the front or the rear? i guess you can take out the 2 small pins and drill for larger pins. you can give me a call anytime. 1-253-847-8254

thanks

So it creates the question why send me 6 dowels for each flange?
I know evan is only running 2 dowells, but i was hoping to do it once and never worry about that breaking again.

I got lux, SAF, IFS and 60 ones at home will check tomorrow,

From memory your going to have to modify the earlier hubs to take the 80 rotors though

cheers for the help guys.

this is becoming a pita. what started out as a swap over is now sourcing new bits once i find out what fits. -that said i needed 1 hub replaced regardless.

The 80 gear fits the 100 so I dont see why it wont.

trying 60 series hubs, see if they fit. but it will mean changing over brakes etc.
failing that i guess its just 80s and only 2 dowels inserted.

you can upgrade the dowels and studs to 100 series. 100series hubs have thicker dowels (still only 2 of them) and thicker studs. You would need to drill out the hubs and the flanges and have the hole in the flange re-machined to suit the 100series cone washers.

doenst solve your problem, but isnt one of the reasons for change to cromo hub flanges to reduce wear on the CV splines as std flanges are harder than cromo??

Zoltan:i'm pretty sure 80series and 100 series hubs are different in more ways than the number of wheel studs, so not readily interchangeable (different offset, different diameter too I think)

went to see what the go was with the hubs the other night

as twon was saying to bolt 60's on youll need to change the brakes, rotors the lot, possibly the knuckles as well i didnt go that far, ive a 60 one sitting out there stripped so i guess i should check
