12ht query

Post by Mulcahy »

hi all i am just wondering if a 12ht import with 130 000 on the clock would be a good buy for 6250 and is there anything i should be asking them to test before i get them to transport it, and what is the best intercooler for these engines it will go into my hj47 ute

thanks Shane Mulcahy

Just remember that the import model is 24 volt if your thinking of using its accesories including the vac shutoff solenoid. They also have a different spec head compared to the aussie models and also if it was an auto (imports usually are) you will need to mod the pump otherwise they surge. Buy an aussie one mate they are around, i see heaps of them go on ebay for around the 3 to 5 grand mark. Good choice of engine though as i have one in my 75 series ute and it gos like a train

Also 130000 kays is irrelavant for an import as they dont drive them like we do over here. Its all stop start and is not good for a turbo diesel.

i can get one for 2 grand but its a import. :bad-words: mine cost me 800 bucks with a bent rod, cost me over 5 to rebuild to how i wanted it though and that was doing it myself. My 75 series is in the first page of the toyota tech if you wanted to check it out.

Hey everyone has anyone else got any ideas on what size intercooler is best and wether to top mount or front mount as i no that some engines get alot of lag from a front mount, is this the case with a 12ht

Get a compression test on any diesel engine you are buying unseen. If the seller can't do it you might be able to hire someone to do it. It will give you an indicator if there are bigger problems or if you're buying a lemon.

compression test needs to be done properly by someone with the right compression guage and knows the right procedure to do it.
